I walked into my house today and the doorknob felt significantly chilly... yet I didn't feel cold from the air. When I hold my hand out in the open air, why doesn't it feel as cold as my door knob?

Hello and thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I have been wondering, in school we learned about the Kelvin scale right? Well they never taught me what type of temperature it measured. I mean, I know the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales measure climatic, industrial, and medical purposes but what about the Kelvin scale? What was the Kelvin scale used for, what type of temperature measurment. If you could answer that would be great!

Hey Southern California, how do you feel about the rainy, wet and cool weather you have today? Are you going to complain about a little rain that you desparately need? Are you going to complain about the cool (not even cold) temperatures? Are you going to wish the rain should have came on another day (and on that "other" day you'd wish it should have came on yet another day)? Is this going to be the headlines of the news now? Or have you forgotten about what rain is?

yesterday there was a precipitation like ive never seen before...It was white, and was like snow, but it was falling in balls about a quarter inch in diameter...it was not ice, so was not hail...i would describe it as if someone took styrofoam and crumbled it up into its constituent balls...can someone tell me the name of this snow?

I live in an area where it snows in the winter quite a bit (eastern Washington state) - several feet sometimes.
It can drop below zero as well.

Yet fog often is present in the winter? Why? I thought it had to be a bit warmer for fog.

There's quite a bit of fog outside right now, a few inches of snow on the ground, and it's around 33 degrees...but it was around 20 last night and it was also quite foggy.

Ok, my birthday is on Dec. 2nd, 1991, and I just wanted the weather records for that day. I lived near Columbus or Norfolk Nebraska. All I've been able to find were the record highs, and the record lows for the day. not the actual day I was looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Our brains can be tricked by the things we see. For example, on a sunny day a mirage of a pool of water may appear on the road.

I saw a picture of this, so I was a little surprised. Is it considered to be a landspout when this happens, or another type of tornado altogether, or something else completely?
