Weather and long-term weather systems are one of the most difficult to predict things in science, which leads to a lot of debate. The earth has undergone many climate changes in the past, but we have only been able to observe these changes on a much longer scale (1000's or millions of years) than currently (year-by-year). It's hard to compare the two and figure out what amount of temp change is significant.
I think the amount of disagreement in the scientific community has been exaggerated by people who are thrown off by the regular mode of scientific discourse - that is, scientists always argue about lots of things, because critical thinking is a part of the scientific process.
Most climate scientists do agree that global warming is occurring. What they disagree about are the details like causes, effects, and speed of global warming.

Because the earth is made up of many different sytems, all of which interact with each other. These relationships are not fully understood my man. The results from global warming models vary according to the sytems they have considered and the relationship these are given. Global warming could make the earth a hotter place with increase sea levels or bring an ice age. No one can know for sure.

Most scientists are paid by an interested party.
The novel 'State of Fear' by Michael Crichton has dozens of charts and several statements by top scientists whose words were changed to say climate change was happening when it wasn't.
Fact The sea has been rising for thousands of years.
Fact Cities warm the measuring stations. Climate stations outside cities show much less warming.
Fact Antarctica is getting colder per decade
Fact Greenland Ice Sheet is thickening
Read the book if you are old enough for more facts.

There is little controversy among climate scientists that greenhouse gases are causing global warming. Those scientists who disagree are the Vocal Minority.
daz1708.
You're misstating the controversy. NO intelligent scientist would argue that melting sea ice (i.e. Arctic Ocean) will cause sea-level to rise for the reasons you state, and it's only about 3 meters thick. BUT, it is clear that melting the land based ice caps of Greenland and Antarctica (which can be 12,000 feet thick) will cause sea-level to rise, just as sea level was higher at times in Earth's history when there was no polar ice.

Because global warming is naturally occurring.
So instead of all the scientists getting together and being able to agree on it being caused by man, some prefer to take into consideration that a lot of it is being caused naturally.

Wouldn't it be a boring world if everyone agreed! Seriously though, the differences arise from opinions as to whether, and by how much, human activity contributes to global warming. Warming, and cooling, appear to have occurred in cycles over millions of years. As a sceptic, in as much as I distrust politicians who seize on any opportunity to tax us and control our lives, I believe nonetheless that we should respect our planet and not spoil it for those who come after us.

If, as a scientist, you say what the government wants you to say, you get funding. If you say anything other than what the government wants you to say, possibly even the truth (the sun is heating up), then your funding is stopped completely. Big business can make money out of developing ways of reducing CO2, nobody makes anything by accepting that the problem is caused by el sol. All scientists are really arguing over is whether they want their funding or not. Truth is a word without meaning in a greed driven society like this one.

The cigerette industry could probably still find scientists that would tell you smokeing wont damage your lungs
Its pretty much the same situation with this i'm afraid..
And although the earths temp does rise and fall naturally we are actually ment to be heading for the next ice age not the other way round

There is a lot of competition between scientists, so most of the disagreements is down to not wanting someone else to get any credit....its always been the same! There is also the funding issue...money is being thrown at global warming research...if they all agreed the funding would stop....cynical but I reckon sadly true!"

It took decades for ALL "scientists" to concede that the Earth was not the center of the solar system. Some believed the sun orbited the earth until the day they died despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
