To those saying "there is no such thing as green lightning", I'm sorry. I can't agree because I've seen it with my own eyes. Granted, the bolt itself is not green but when gasses in the sky mix a certain way, the bolt can appear to the eye as green. Often, if a transformer is struck, you will see the "green". Also, if a hailstorm is associated with the cell, the lightning can appear that color as well. I HAVE seen it though and it's quite fascinating.

There is no such thing as green lightning but there is white lightning which is when you see a lightning bolt but there is no storm in sight the storm is usually a long ways away.

Green lightning doesn't exist. White lightning is just lightning. Lightning can travel 10 miles (I believe) or so from the storm itself.

The enviroment that the lightning is going through can play a big role on the color. when the sky is green (clouds have greenish color) it means that they are packing some serious hail. It doesn't always happen though. Hail can give that greenish color due to sun light been scattered around the hail stones (about the only color left to go through is green).
