I agree with pegminer. The height of the northern lights are just way, way too high for a funnel to develop anywhere close.

It sure would be pretty if it did. I can imagine a pillar of light reaching that high into space as being breathtakingly beautiful.

The northern lights occur in the magnetosphere, which is perhaps 5 or more times higher than the highest cumulonimbus cloud, so no landspout will ever connect to the northern lights.
