If you read my last question,I have a severe fear of thunderstorms.Aside of all the reasons they make me scared, thunder plays a huge role.I know thunder itself can't harm me but I do have a question.Does the sound of thunder indicate at all how close the lighting was? Also, what are the chances of lighting striking my home and (we live in a good trailor) effecting me in some way besides starting a fire?

I have forgotten all of my geology terms so I'll describe it simple...it easily breaks apart when hit with a hammer, it almost looks like glass. It splits up into shards too. It's a deep blue green color and it's really shiny and smooth.

In NZ we're just coming up to the shortest day, but winter has only just begun. Generally speaking, July is a lot colder than June. Why is it not the coldest time of year now, when the days ar the shortest? Has it got something to do with heat stored by the earth?

With all these massive storms and floods in New South Wales I am wondering if it has been falling in our catchment areas and filling all the dams. Has anything been written about this yet?
