When lighting strikes the ocean, is the marine life close to the area of impact affected?

I don't think so. Because as water is a bad conductor, once lightning hits the ocean, unless a marine life is at the surface, i doubt that marine life would be endangered. Because if marine life is under water, lightning would not be able to reach them through the water. Hope this helps! ^^

Water is a very good conductor of electricity, since it can travel a great distance. So fish are affected, they might get stunned a little bit. That is why they tell us to stay out of the water when there is a live power line on the ground.
