August and yes September are 'peak' times for hurricane development. I'd still say go on the cruise.. doesn't mean a massive hurricane is going to disrupt the vacation. Keep an eye on the weather a week or so before you go, nonetheless. Hope you have fun!

Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast August 29th. I personally wouldn't schedule a cruise in September.

September and August are the worst times to cruise because that is the peak of hurricane season. Doesn't mean you will hit one though. I take my cruises no later than the first week in july and i haven't hit any yet.

Hurricane season is from June 1st - November 30th. I would defiantly keep my eyes open for the time you are doing your cruise. Mid August to end of October is considered "peak" season..with early September to mid September having the maximum activity.

Officially, June 1 thru November 30. However, tropical storms have been noted before and after these times, especially in recent times.
