I have forgotten all of my geology terms so I'll describe it simple...it easily breaks apart when hit with a hammer, it almost looks like glass. It splits up into shards too. It's a deep blue green color and it's really shiny and smooth.

Sounds like obsidian. While black is most common, it also comes in colors like you describe.

Well it could be apatite which is know to have that colour. It is only 5 on the Moh's scale so it should break apart easily under a hammer. It has a tabular crystal structure and an indistinct cleavage which could explain the shards when broken.

Without seeing it though i can't know for sure.

Could be obsidian (volcanic glass)

It's either shale or it could be mica.
