My parents have a Maple Tree and the leaves have these tiny little teeth (pickers, tines..however you say it, lol) that are all the way throughout the leaf, not just on the edges, and they don't know what kind of Maple they have. It turns colors in the fall and the leaf falls off, like other trees. I have tried to do some searching online and just can't come up with anything other than the kind that the teeth are on the outside edges....any ideas?

My wife would like a field guide or pocket guide to flowers, shrubs, fauna, plants and things that grow wild and on the side of the road. ...At least that's basically how she worded it.

I'd like to buy her one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a book like this?

This year the fruit are bigger, and when I brought some into the house they ripened into what I think are Bartlet OR bosc I tasted one and it was delicious. Could they STILL be Bradford Pears?

Why is it that raspberries are made up of several fruit masses with one seed per mass, while strawberries are made up of one solid fruit mass with seeds lining the outer part of the fruit? There must be a logical reason to why they have evolved this way. Do they need to distribute their seeds in a certain way, hence the different structure they have evolved? Or have they simply evolved completely seperately with no common host?

I'm curious to know how one could tell by appearance alone the difference between a yellow-meated watermelon and a red-meated one. That is to say I don't mean store bought watermelons. I live in a rural area and many people grow them. Is there any indication in the pattern on the rind to what kind of meat the watermelon has?

What in the world has happened to this tree? It is next to 3 other pines, but this is the only with the problem. The holes start at the very bottom and go up pretty far, they are well formed and some even in straight lines. They are only about 1/4 inch deep. Some of the holes have caused tons of sap to seep out. Here are some images:

Is it infested with something? If so, what is it…should the tree be removed? If it’s disease will it spread?

They are in my mother's flower bed; however, she does not remember planting them. I assume they are weeds, but she does not want to pull them out until she knows.

The first one has spiked leaves and is growing upward only, here are 2 images:
