Terracing is also practiced in very hilly and mountainous areas. It is easier to maintain a garden that is relatively flat rather than on a steep slope.
Strip cropping may be done for easier crop rotation. This helps to prevent diseases in crops and reduces the amount of fertilizer usage. If corn is grown in the same field year after year, the field has to be heavily fertilized with nitrogen and the corn crop is more suseptical to corn smut. Therefore the crop has to be heavily sprayed as a prevention.
Planting vegetation is for water retention, soil errosion, and air purrification.
