Seeweed or Lakeweed?

Seeweed or Lakeweed?
We have some machines cutting weeds in our lake.
Are they cutting Seeweed or Lakeweed. What would be the proper name. My local newspaper called it Seaweed.

nitrates in the water from fertilizer runoff, and sewage cause alge and waterplants to grow disproportionatlly in a lot of lakes ponds rivers and streams .I have never heard of seaweed growing in a lake.
