The first defenition listed under sound is: a sensation produced by stimulation of organs of hearing by vibrations transmitted through the air. So technically, NO. If no one is there then the organs of hearing (ears) are not stimulated. There would still be the vibration, however it would not truly be considered a "sound"

No it makes sound waves but someone has to be around for it to be a sound. Your ears are the things that perceive the sound and if no one is around than no it does not make a sound!
