For many years I said yes, duh. But then I tried to think about it differently. Whether people are there or not, the tree falls and the falling/impact cause many vibrations that pass through the neighboring matter. This vibration is experienced as sound. But, these vibrations are only sound because they are perceived by the ear. So, in my humble opinion, no. If no one (human, animal, or insect) is there to experience said fall, it is just a bunch of vibrations passing through matter until it's energy is expended.

Yes, it sounds like a gun shot or any other loud sound. It doesn't happen a lot though. I go camping all the time and it has happened once. The bigger the tree, the louder the noise.

Sure does. A big cracking noise followed by a massive crash, most likely. Natural processes continued millions of years before humans appeared and will continue for millions of years after we have all gone.
Cheers, Steve.

sound is defined as vibrations through the air, the tree would certainly vibrate the air whether you heard it or not.
