The relationship, PV = nRT, for constant temperature, would indicate a linear relationship during compression. However, my foreign professor is unable to explain to me why he is teaching me that the line is not linear in a P-V diagram.

I am a computer scientist with an "application area" of biology. Strange I know, my point is I have at least a basic understanding of biological principles, and a more detailed understanding of a few specific areas (microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, etc). Enough background info: I recently have found myself wanting to know basics about various medical issues (both diagnostics and treatment). I'm looking for a book that can give me a basic overview of a wide range of "medical problems", as well as a bit of slightly more technical information. A book that might answer,

What is the cause of allergies (physiology)?
What happens when a person has an allergic reaction?
What common parasitic worms are there, what are their symptoms, what are their treatments?
Different types of cancer, their treatments, and how they work exactly?

I find myself looking at the body more as a complicated machine, I'd love to know more about how it works in relationship to problems.

Thanks!

I need to know what the point is that is 5.44 away from point (7,3). Possibly one could use the distance formula. I would like to know how you got it also.

it's been ten million years since i've done this sort of thing.

it's for a program to determine the number of intersections (points) in an even hex grid with a radius of x.

(for example: a grid of 7 hexes, x = 1.
for a grid of 91 hexes, x=5.)

thanks in advance!

What is the historical fact behind GMT? I mean, why do we put the clocks forward in spring, and back in the autumn/winter? When did this actually start happening?

Oh, and when do we put the clocks back this year?

Thanks to one and all!!

A sky diver of mass 80.0 kg (including parachute) jumps off a plane and begins her descent.
Throughout this problem use 9.80 m/s^2 for the magnitude of the acceleration due to gravity.

For an object falling through air at a high speed , the drag force acting on it due to air resistance can be expressed as

F = Kv^2

where the coefficient K depends on the shape and size of the falling object and on the density of air. For a human body, the numerical value for K is about 0.250 kg/m.

Using this value for K, what is the terminal speed v-terminal of the sky diver?
Express you answer in meters per second.

B) When the parachute is fully open, the effective drag coefficient of the sky diver plus parachute increases to 60.0 kg/m. What is the drag force F(drag) acting on the sky diver immediately after she has opened the parachute?

C) What is the terminal speed v(terminal) of the sky diver when the parachute is opened?
Express your answer in meters per second.

Show that Aut (Z,+) has only two elements.

So I've figured out what the two elements are, f(x) = x and g(x) = -x. But I can't figure out how to prove that there are no other elements.
