In no-tilling farming, farmers leave the remains of corn stalks and other crops on the field after harvest. How could this method of farming help to improve soil fertility and decrease erosion?

I'm just looking at the specs of some used machinery and saw the above specs. Is it possible for that motor to draw 15A? I'm assuming that one of those numbers must be a typo, either it doesn't draw that much amperage or it isn't 3 phase, isn't 220v, or is actually 5HP.

The bonnets are made of something like canvas and are open over the horns. There are about 15 cows or steers all with the same kind of covering over their heads.Do you have any idea what the bonnets are for or why they are wearing them.
(No silly, ridiculous answers, please)

I am thinking about leasing 20 acres of tillable land to grow a crop of field corn (not sweet corn, but field corn for consumption by livestock or use in ethanol production). My farm is in North East Ohio. I haven't factored in how much of the crop will be lost. I'm just curious if there are any people with expertise in agriculture who can help.

I'm just researching farming for the future. A few questions:

Cows - What is the best dairy breed (in your opinion)

Chickens - Best egg layers, breed

Goats - Best breed (trying to decide between dairy cows and goats... what do you think?)

What do you need to know before starting a (small) farm? Feed, fencing, housing, etc. Things that most people forget to tell you?

Also, how to get rid of leafminers (attacking tomatoes) and tiny caterpillars who attack spinach? We have an organic garden.

I'm going to check out a few of the local farms for more help, but any info is helpful.

Is there much in the way of good farm land, and is there adequate rainfall during the growing season? Also, if there is much farming, what are some of the typical crops?

When we city dwellers drive along the rural landscape, we often see large cylindrical rolls of hay in the fields. If left in the field, will the interior turn to silage? If so, is the process more efficient if the rolls are brought into a barn? More efficient if enveloped with a plastic cover? Is it considerably cheaper than putting the hay into a silo? They look rather expensive.
