Earth-worm a good friend, un-paid labour who works 24 hours a day without complaint, who plows the land, airaits the roots, supplies fertilizers and on and on... we must have them on our farm in big quantity. What is organic way to boost their population?

I was told it could be ancient plow marks or it was dug up during the war to stop enemy planes or gliders landing neither sound right to me. Plow lines are closer together usually and posts in the ground would be more effective against aircraft

They think that genetically altered crops might be the cause, though the companies that make the seeds for these crops and most of the corporate companies that wholesale grow them ignore these claims and keep right on trucking. Do you think that this obvious display of corporate-bottom-line-greed will harm our agriculture permanently?

ag subsidies encourage production. About half the food in the US is wasted. We could save energy and reduce the federal budget by eliminating subsidies.

As I watch farmland, in my area, converted into townhouses, stripmalls, and McMansions I have day dreamed about an idea.

Why not build multi-level greenhouses - several stories high, primarily high-strength construction glass where plants are grown in a hydroponic environment. Maybe add solar panels to power water/nutrient pumps and additional lighting when/where needed. One acre of land could potentially grow several acres of food.

Anyone have any thoughts on the feasibility of such a project or any resources I could be directed to?

I've found only 3 ways to kill these suckers, a 12 Ga with #7 shot, a 9 lb sledge hammer & a base ball bat. I'm not at all worried about the environmental impact... one of us has to go & they are eating everything from pecan trees to grass for the cattle. (Mormon Crickets & the big brown & yellow suckers).

Why haven't the cigarette companies used genetic engineering or other scientific techniques to develop a cigarette that doesn't contain carcinogens and other harmful ingredients? It would be good business for them.
