If farming was crap all you would have to eat would be crap. I think you would be better off sticking to rock and pop, I know we would be happier.

lol No. A farm can be a place to raise any animal or it can be strictly for growing fruits and/or grains and/or vegetables. Very often, though, you will find cows, goats, and chickens on farms. If you have the room, why not raise your own sources of milk, eggs and meat?

Going along with "Cowboys" sarcasm.

Crap is a waste product of farming.
However it can be a by-product with value.
Fertilizer on fields, worm food, bagged soil etc.
The show "Dirty Jobs" had an episode on making poo pots.

When my bother and I were young,
my father said he'd send us to the "Funny Farm" if we did not stop goofing off.

To address your Q.
A "Farm" has different meanings.
The IRS, state and county Ag. has strict definitions.
As mentioned by the others,
Can be for raising crops or animals.

But Just like the word "Ranch",
yuppies and retro country livin folk like this term.
So might be no plants nor animals.
Could just be an art studio with a wagon wheel out front.

farms produce plants, corn farm, rice farm, wheat farm. so you dont need any animals. ranches produce aminals pig ranch, sheep ranch, cattle ranch. but you can have any animal.

its like asking if you need a 4 showers in your house to be considered a house. by noe means does the number of showers decide wether or not it is a house. just like it doesnt decide if a farm is a farm or not. even though i think you meant ranch

According to my mom, you must have chickens. She's 80 years old and still does chores morning and evening, cares for her chickens and goats, scoops manure, hauls hay, mows the yard and so on. Since she apparently knows what she's doing, I say yes you do.

By the way, I agree with Cowboy.
