I know the obvious reasons like it feels good, helps you feel closer to the object of your affections etc. But is it an instinct? It seems to come naturally, yet through evolution does it have any particular use as such (we instinctively know to 'mate' but this has enabled our species to continue, kissing seems extraneous)?

Let n be a natural number greater than 1, and suppose we have n people boarding a train carriage that has n seats, each passenger having a ticket which designates the seat in which they are supposed to sit. The first person to board sits in a seat randomly chosen. From then on, a passenger sits in their designated seat if it's available, and if not, sits in a seat they choose at random.

What is the probability that the nth person sits in the seat designated by their ticket? To win the points, provide a proof.

1) Infinity(Sigma)n=0 (11)/((n^2)+49)
2) Infinity(Sigma)n=2 (1)/(n)(ln(n))^2
3) Infinity(Sigma)n=2 (3)/(4n-1)^2

first the question is.
If chocolate has 6% fat how do you work out how much there is in 0.5 of chcolate in gramms

one way of doing it is (0.5/100)x6=0.03

but how can 6% be calculated as 0.06

so you can do it as 0.06x0.5=0.03

I got this letter to send one pair of socks to the name at the top of the list and then write the name of the person who sent it to me on the #1 spot and my name on the #2 spot . So I wasn't adding my name to the bottom of a long list like most chain letters... I talked to one of friends and she said it doesn't work, no matter what. I'm supposed to get 36 pairs of socks for the price of one... Why doesn't it work, if everyone participates?

an extremely horrible thing occurred yesterday. My girlfriend wanted to take her children at the zoo and i reluctantly agreed While visiting the tiger habitat, my girlfriend found the tiger to be very cute looking and beautiful. There was a thin fence, and i have no idea why but she inserted her hand to pat the tiger's head. Just as she rubbed her hand on the tiger's nose -- the next thing -- she has no hand! The tiger bit her on the hand with such tremendous force, that the entire hand got detached and he was literally walking away with her entire hand in its mouth and then to the horror of everyone, starts eating and chewing that bloodied hand. Showers of blood came out of her wrists and everyone screamed. Soon she fainted, and was taken to some hospital by zoo people. We are in a third word country, and the zoo officials say its my girlfriend's fault for touching tiger's face. But isn't it zoo's responsibility to tame and domesticate the tiger? gf is 28. shouldn't zoo pay 4 medical?

My partner cuts up polystyrene (plastic foam) as a way of recycling materials for packaging. It's very efficient but the build up of static electricity slows the job down and drives her crazy.

She uses a wooden board and a steel knife with a bone handle, cuts the polystyrene into cubes about the size of a dice, and then puts them into a carboard box before going onto the next piece.

The static electricity build up causes the little cubes to cling to everything and sometimes to 'refuse' to go into the box!

As you can imagine, it slows the whole process down.

Any ideas about how to reduce the build up of static electricity?

Thanks!

Thea notices that 4 = 2 + 2, 6 = 3 + 3, 8 = 5 + 3, and 28 = 23 + 5, so she thinks that it is likely that every even number can be written as the sum of two prime numbers.

is this Deductive or Inductive?
