I do believe in the strong possibility of life existing elsewhere in the universe (although not in them visiting us). Any guesses on how many, though, would be pure speculation. If you're not already familiar with it, the Drake Equation is an effort at an educated guess at how many intelligent lifeforms may be out there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation
There's an important distinction between how many worlds out there may have life currently, and how many have EVER had any. There's also a distinction between intelligent life and just simple life - but until we start encountering other worlds and examining other types of life, if there are any, it'll be hard to determine where to draw those lines, anyway. Intelligent life from another world will NOT look human, they won't even be humanoid, they won't have our same sensory organs like eyes and ears, and they will probably have a completely different way of thinking all together, so what is "intelligent" life will need some clarification. They may not necessarily have things like curiosity, or greed, love, family, hatred. Conversely, they may have concepts we can't even begin to imagine.
There's also a difference between how many worlds have life in the Universe, and how many in just our Galaxy. The difference is a factor of billions.
If I were to make a completely speculative guess, I would think there are perhaps 1,000 worlds within the Milky Way galaxy which currently hold some form of life.

At one time there were 30 clans living on Mars and 16 small
families were homesteading the moon. The Martian clan were miners and Probliminium was their targeted goal. For some reason, both parties become extinct about the same time as Earth lost its Dinosaurs.

confident for the same motives you state. this is obtainable that someplace in this super universe there'll be a matching galaxy as ours which could sustain existence. comparable form of circumstances as us the place there is an evolution of existence varieties. purely because of the fact in our lifetime we won't be able to commute to locate the different existence in the universe that doesn't propose that it does not exist. that we've not been contacted by using different existence varieties in spite of the fact it quite is yet another factor.....perhaps there is existence available progressed previous us which could attain us yet why have not they arrive to earth or have they? besides this is a huge universe that all of us understand little to no longer something approximately so in no way say in no way.
