A 5.50 g bullet is fired horizontally into a 1.10 kg wooden block resting on a horizontal surface. The coefficient of kinetic friction between block and surface is 0.200. The bullet remains embedded in the block, which is observed to slide 0.230 m along the surface before stopping. What was the initial speed of the bullet?

I was pregnant with my now 10 year old daughter and was at home alone one evening. My best friend Kathy had passed away with cancer the month before and I was in deep thought about her. It was storming outside and the lightning was crashing everywhere. all of the sudden i got really spoked!! I felt like someone was in the same room as me and it was really scaring me. then all of the sudden i felt like it was Kathy there but i was sooooo scared. then all of the sudden i felt this electrifiying sensation come over me... it is hard to explain the feeling. it lasted about 10 seconds then all of the sudden i was very tired.
when my daughter was about 4 she came to me and asked me when i was going to take her BACK to see the waterfalls. I asked her what waterfalls as i had never taken her to see any and she said on a trip to see the water falls... the summer before kathy died we went on a trip and walked under some waterfalls. She said it was a trip she would always remember. weird!

A 15.0 kg block is attached to a very light horizontal spring of force constant 550 N/m and is resting on a smooth horizontal table. Suddenly it is struck by a 3.00 kg stone traveling horizontally at 8.00 m/s to the right, whereupon the stone rebounds at 2.00 m/s horizontally to the left. Find the maximum distance that the block will compress the spring after the collision.

Here's what I don't understand: if 1 car gan go 60 mph on a freeway with relative ease, why can't 1000 cars going in the same direction ALSO go 60 mph with relative ease? Why is it that, as more vehicles get added into the mix, the slower everyone seems to go? Is it simply the random mix of idiocy, people changing lanes, larger vehicles vs smaller, exiting & entering vehicles? And is it unavoidable human nature to gawk at a traffic accident, thereby slowing down the people behind you?
It seems like every day I hear traffic reports of accidents at the same locations & just wondering WHY??? And, with that knowledge, what can be done to decrease the probability of repeated accidents?

Sorry -- lots of questions -- but I've wondered abou these things for years.

How would you go about solving this problem?

"An object with a mass of 3.45 kd is pulled up a slope that is 36 meters long to a height of 3 meters. There is no friction and the acceleration is constant. The speed at the bottom of the slope is 3.5 m/s and the speed at the top of the slope is 5.5 m/s. The average power developed by the motor pulling the object is...?"

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am working through a packet as I prepare for a test.

y= (2x^3-8x^2-x+4)/(x^2-6x+9)

I found one vertical asymptote at x=3 from the factors (x-3)^2

I found no horizontal asymptote - my rationale is the highest degree of the numerator is larger than the highest degree of the denominator. Where did I go wrong? My answers say there should be two asymptotes? Am I doing this wrong, overthinking, etc.?

not so long ago, several months ago i saw on the news and many other shows including oprah. The lady who was trapped in her car under water, the rescuers could not get her doors open nor her windows. As she was slowly going down further she felt a hand come in and drag her up and out of the car. When she surfaced the rescuers then pulled her out of the water, but none of them grabbed her out of the car. When the car was pulled out of the water to their amazment the doors were still jammed shut and all the windows were still up. No one could work out how or who could of grabbed her out. I remember seeing the rescue on the news, then later oprah interviewed her. Well i believe in angels, other wise she would of drowned for sure.
