Consider the initial value problem
dA/dt = kA, A(0) = A_0 (where '_' means subscript)
as the model for the decay of a radioactive substance.

(i) Show that, in general, the half-life T of the substance is
T = - ln 2 / k.
(ii) Show that the solution of the initial value problem in part (1) can be written as
A(t) = A_(0) * 2^(e*(-t / T)).
(iii) If a radioactive substance has the half-life T given in part (i), how long will it take an initial amount A_0 of the substance to decay to 1/8 A_0?

I am at a loss as to what to do for all parts of this question. If someone who knew how to do this, would maybe express their ideas (even solve the problem!!) - well that would be wonderful!!

Thank-you!

The upper right-hand corner of a piece of paper 12 by 8 is folded over to the bottom edge. How would you fold it to minimize the length of the fold? Basically, what are the dimensions of the fold. How far from the corner down, or how far from the corner to the left should the fold be made. The right corner is supposed to just touch the bottom edge.

I have seen nurses in an ICU setting caring for patients who have met brain death criteria and whose families want to donate. Transplant nurses (coordinators) then come in and do a lot of phoning and paperwork (after speaking with the loved ones), follow the body to the OR and fly all over the place. What exactly is the role of the transplant coordinator as a nursing position?

The shrub (in the photos at the link) is native or naturalized in Lewis County, Missouri (Northeast portion of the state). It is growing in a heavily forested area on Lindley Series soils. I'm assuming it's of the genus Viburnum based on close similarity to V. dentatum, and might have identified it as that were it not for the shape of the drupes (which are ripe as of now and a blue-black color), and possibly the hairs along the veins. The leaf shape also appears to be non-typical of what I have seen on V. dentatum. With me not being a botanist, my resources and abilities are limited on the subject. Judging from the limited number of good descriptions and photos available, V. bracteatum would be the closest I could find... but the distribution of that species makes that seem very unlikely to be the species I have found.

Scientists claim that 98% of the universe was made after the 1st 3 minutes itself. It is also said that during the big bang, hydrogen was emitted in huge amounts, and due to its fusion, helium was also formed. However, can you tell me, how the heavier elements formed? what provoked such high temperature for their fusion?

Does an Arizona bark scorpion, which usually carries its tail held flat out to it's side, lift its tail above its back when threatened?

We get bark scorpions in our house with some frequency, and I am familiar with their appearance, but the other night I found a scorpion in my daughter's room that was on the large side and had its tail up over its back. Was this just a threatened bark scorpion, or a different species altogether?
