Most of the time if I see someone yawning I wouldn't know but do the same unconsciously. Anyway, find the details that would convince you to believe or not by following this link:

Clinically contagious? no. psychologically contagious, yes. The actual pathway of neurons associated with it have not been agreed upon. Here is an interesting article on the subject:

Other animals seem to have "contagious" yawns also. What I found interesting was when I saw the picture of the fox yawning on the above website, I also yawned.

It's supposed to be like some type of subconscious social thingy, I think. I think it's kind of like when we walk in public we kind of form a line, but nobody tell people to do that. We just do. I don't know why. Or if there's some connection or sign going on between people walking. We see others yawn and most of time we do the same. It may be just some weird odd byproduct of being social animal.

I have heard of three theories
- yawning is from to much carbon dioxide and the body is trying to get oxygen
- it dates back to prehistoric ways. yawning was communication and has ollowed as a habit to this day. yawning is only contagious till after you are two years of age when you have epirenced it.
- reflex of deep inhalation and exhalation associated with being tired, with a need to sleep, or from lack of stimulation
