A triangle has the following properties:
1) It is scalene
2) It does not contain a right angle.
3) It has interger length sides
4) Its area is an integer.
Find the triangle with these properties which has the least perimeter.

[ Use Heron's Formula for the area of a triangle with sides a, b, c: where area = square root of s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) where 's' is the semi perimeter (a+b+c)/2 ]

I don't understand this... why do i use (4/2)^2 in the next problem
Identifying the Vertex of a Quadratic Function
example
Describe the graph of f(x)= 2x^2+8x+7 and identify the vertex.
solution
write the quadratic function in standard form by completing the spare. Recall that the first step is to factor out any coefficient of x^2 that is not 1
f(x)=2x^2+8x+7
f(x)=2(x^2+4x)+7
f(x)=2(x^2 + 4x + 4 - 4) +7 ----------------------->because b=4, add and subtract (4/2)^2
f(x)=2(x^2 + 4x +4) - 2(4)+7
= 2(x+2)^2-1
From standard form, you can see that the graph of f is a parabola that opens upward with vertex (-2,-1)

Identify the vertex and x-intercepts(s).
#1
f(x)=x^2 - x + 5/4

I tried to factor it... (x- ) (x- ) but I could not figure out what times what is 5/4
the answer is the following but it want to know how to do this.
Vertex: (1/2, 20)
x-intercept: none
and a graph

# 2
f(x) = -x^2+2x+5

Any ideas why it is the way it is? With centigrade, it seems reasonable that someone would have chosen 2 significant temperatures (such as freezing point and boiling point of water) and assign nice round numbers to them. It's intuitive and common sense. Fahrenheit, however, is different. It seems to lack the simplicity, intuitiveness, and common sense of centigrade.

So, my question: why is the Fahrenheit scale the way it is? How is it derived?

I had never heard of them until I did some research recently and feel that they have a pretty solid design. They would likely be more efficient than the typical two stroke while having more HP than a four stroke with similar displacement. Why has this design not been used in conventional applications such as lawnmowers or auto engines?

I live in Arkansas, and these plants are out in my field. There is a patch of them. It doesn't really look natural or look like they are wild. It looks like someone planted them at one time or another. Maybe it could be a clue to an old homesite? I want to look for a well but it is summer and everything is so grown up right now. I think I will metal detect in the winter to learn more about this spot. Also there are rocks where the plants are growing... Anyone know what this means?
