No, sharks exercise ecologically important control mechanism in the oceans, without it the oceans would be in danger. Though anyone may be scared of thinking of sharks, they are actually not a threat to humans but humans are threat to sharks recently- hunting for its meat, fins, etc.

Sharks are already hunted to the point where many species are declining at a dangerous rate. They're extremely popular in the far east in shark fin soup and sharks are caught and de-finned (their fins are cut off) and the rest of the shark is dropped back into the water where it dies. It's a very wasteful practice and since many sharks are known to either have a very slow reproductive cycle or are not sufficiently studied to know their reproductive rate, it's reckless to be killing the sharks at the rate they are being hunted today. Remember that while many people are scared of sharks, they fill a very important niche in the ecosystem. We need them, not the other way around.

The main reason sharks shouldn't be hunted is:
They have a very slow generation time and produce few young. That means it takes a long time for them to recover from hunting, and hunting has a major impact on them, much moreso than most fish.

It's much better to hunt fish that have many offspring and short generation times, because at least they can bounce back, if the fishing isn't too extreme.

no, their numbers are dropping, if they continue to be hunted like this , then they may become extinct, which should make all people very ashamed that a creature which is so well designed that it has barely evolved in thousands of years, should eventually die out because of us. Its a perfect species.

also the way they are killed is cruel, they cut off their fins then thrown them back in. Because they cant swim without theire fins , they sink the bottom and drown, as they need to be constantly swimming and have the water move thru their gills to live.
Its like cutting off the legs of a cow and then throwing it back in the field and leave it bleed to death - that would never be allowed so why is it when its a shark?

No!!!! Sharks are terribly misunderstood animals. People should leave them alone. If someone is attacked, it is merely a case of mistaken identity. After all, the human is invading the shark's territory.

no they shouldnt they are beautiful albeit a bit scarey creatures. they are becoming rare and endangeerred and only kill people when they are silly enough to go into there habitat. you dont see sharks coming into our habitats ie down the shopping malls ect killing people. i think they should be protected like any rare or endangered animal.

No because according to scientist it will disrupt the food chain.

However willy mammoths and dodo birds are extinct and we seem to be getting along quite nicely still.
