Will the baby get enough colostrum or whatever it is, even if i have a hard time breastfeeding at first?

My 2 week old does not seem to settle without something in his mouth...he tries to suck on everything to sooth himself to sleep and I hate seeing him so frustrated..breastfeeding sooths him but I cant just latch him on every time he wants to sleep, even when he is not hungry, if this were the case he would be permanently attached to me!

Is there any reason not to give him a pacifier to sooth himself to sleep? I know they say not within the first month if breastfeeding, and I am breastfeeding, but there is no nipple confusion as he also takes expressed milk from a bottle no problem..also I would not plan on allowing using a dummy to continue for long, just until he can settle himself..or does anyone else have any other ideas on how to settle him?

My newborn has it all. She has more outfits then the eye can see, some shoes, booties, blankets galore. I want to get her some things for christmas but not sure what toys are suitable for a newborn. She has enough necessities so i dout i will buy her any clothing maybe 1-3 outfits at most. She has a brand new travel system, crib, pack n play, highchair. So we wont be needing any of those. She also has tons of stuffed bears and dolls. I dont want to buy 1 huge gift but rather a few small ones to put under the tree with her name on it. I dont go out much so i do most of my shopping on ebay or walmart, and somtimes the local sears or JCPennys, and even khols. Can any one give me some advice on some practical gift for my newborn? It would help so much since december 1st is right around the corner. I dont like mobiles too much so I think i'll throw them off the list. She has a new winter snowsuit. I'm just so lost and confused on what to buy her. Thanks a ton everyone! - Angel Lynn's Mommy

I'm expecting my first child in a few months. I'm starting to look for child care now. I work about 45 minutes from my home. Do you think it is better to place the child in a center close to my work or home? I live and work in really nice areas so either place will have nice day care centers.

I am on here a lot and have made some friends and we are all great and different. I see the question a lot about "Breast or Formula" and I wonder.... Can the two get a long if they are friends? Really, lets say "X" is a great Mom who breast feeds and is very vocal about it being the only right way. Lets say "Y" is a formula feeding mother and is just fine with her chioce for whatever reason. Can they be close friends? I will tell you what I think when I select a best answer. In addition I am not trying to cause problems I am really just curious! Thanks!

I have small breasts, and even though I know they'll likely get bigger once filled with milk, I was wondering...does the size of the breast make any difference in baby's ability to breastfeed?

I am a breastfeeding mom of an eight month old. He does not like solid food much yet so I know he depends a lot on my breast milk so I want to make sure he is getting enough nutrients if I do go on a diet. Are there any breast feeding moms out there with great diet routines? I know breastfeeding helps some parent lose weight but this is my second child that I have breastfed and with both losing weight was never easy.I have never been overweight but these days
I am a bit chubby and of course I know the importance of exercise but I would like tips on a great diet for nursing moms.

I hear different things from different places and there are diffrent lists and I am so confused? What is really necessary to have when your baby arrives and what is just a waste of money?

am looking at travel sets. I went on consumer reports and baby center. i see that in consumer reports chicco was the one brand that did excellent on the crash test and preg preggo, britax, baby trend and graco did very good on the crash protection. we are thinking of getting the chicco travel set or one of the graco travel sets. I went on baby center to look up recalled car seat. graco had a recall in sept of this year so i am a lil sketchy. its seems like chicco and baby trend are the only brands my local stores have. I was reading the reviews on chicco and some people were please and some were just upset that they paid too much and that the car seat does not fit in to a shopping cart (i think thats scary though) i would like some advice. people that have used chicco baby trend and graco what have been your experiences. what do you reccomend, tips? Thank you, this is my first baby

I'm having a bit of a problem. My newborn son LOVES to eat, he'll eat every half hour on average, and only one of my breasts produces milk for some strange reason! So, in other words I dont think I'm producing enough milk for his needs. I dont know for sure, but he's starting to get fussier after feeds like i'm not giving him enough or something. Should I suppliment with a bit of formula when I have no breast milk to give him? And if so, how much a day should he eat, and what kinds are the best from your past experiences?

I want to bottlefeed my breastmilk, so I know how many ounces she is getting and to get her on a better schedule!

For those of you who have done this, is it a pain to pump all of the time and did you have a routine?

she eats 6 ounces of formula every 3 hours or 4. she eats gerber oatmeal cereal in the morning and a jar of gerber food for lunch or sometimes she'll have rice cereal. then in the evening she'll have a snack like cheerios or gerber puffs. but lately we have been letting her try bites of adult food if we are eating dinner we'll give her a bit of rice or mashed potatoe or bread.

So one day she walked in while I was feeding my son and "repositioned" him so that it hurt, saying that the correct way to breastfeed was the painful way. It's a sacrifice that all mothers should make.
To support this statement, she said that she had breastfed all her kids the painful way, and all of them had gained more than the average babies.

How do I act on this without causing a rift?

Our pediatrican is great for well visits and common problems, but we've had 2 somewhat abnormal issues with my 10mo that I've had to seek other proffessional advice on.

I've seen so many answers here that give advice to trust what your peditrician tells you. Obviously, the asker is second guessing the advice of their doc if they're asking a question.

What do you think/do? Always trust the doctor or research their advice?

My 1 week old girl has a minor jaundice and doc hasnt given any medicine but told me to expose her to sunlight. wanted to know if I should keep massaging her? Some people say I should and some say I should not. Even docs vary on it. What do you all have to say.

And Should I give her more formula milk than breast milk? When will it go away?
