My son is just getting ready to turn 9 months as well. When my daughter was his age she was constantly plucking the ornaments from the tree, sometimes breaking them. So what I decided to do this year is garland and lights only. The garland and lights are securely wrapped enough that he won't be able to pull them off.

You should put one up for the very reason that it's the baby's first Christmas. My daughter is almost 7 months old and Loves to look at the lights. She really doesn't crawl yet but we put up plastic ornaments (they look like glass). It wouldn't be Christmas without a tree. Like they said before place a smaller tree on top pf a table. Good luck!

This wont help but it's a great story.
My son was the same age. He was in the room while the wife and I put up the ornaments. Then one of the hooks for an ornament was missing. We looked around and there was our son sitting there with his hands in his mouth. We both thought that he had swallowed the hook. We took him to an emergency center and had him x-rayed.
There was nothing in him, we were just overly protective parents. We found the hook later.

What better time at instilling boundaries and sharing a tradition of having the lights on, etc.... Come on!!! Don't be a scrooge. I have a 21 month old that was 10 months last year. After the first initial minutes of it being up, he never touched it.
This year he is 21 months and I have 2 others that are 18 months that I watch everyday...not but a couple of times have I had to tell them to "not touch" look"...and that was it.
Put up your tree....it's Christmas!!!

Only a table top tree, be sure to keep the cord up. He'll like the colored lights! Oh, don't forget to buy a baby's 1st Christmas ornament!!!!!!!

Can you block off the area around the tree? I already put my tree up and my 6 month old loves to look at the lights!

My daughter is 7 months. It's too much of a hazard for crawlers...besides is she really going to remember it at such a young age. I'm sure my daughter won't, my daughter cares only about the remote control and putting it in her mouth.

my son will be 9 months also this christmas. i plan to put up the tree and lights so he can look at it. i will also wrap gifts so he can tear them open, he loves to tear things lol.

i think if you are concerned about him getting into the tree put a gate around it. i am sure he will love to see the lights and colors.

NO - we took ours down the morning of the twenty 6th. We had it up through fact the 1st week of November and we opened presents and such on Christmas eve. besides Christmas holiday is over and there is not any experience leaving the tree and decorations up.

i would put the tree up but not put decorations on the bottom where he can reach but the colors on the tree can be helpful for him. they say it is very good to have a wide veriety of colors for your baby to look at.my daughters first christmas i couldnt aford a tree so a friend of mine gave me a fiber optic one that i could set up on a table she would look at that thing for hours because of the changing colors.
