Our pediatrican is great for well visits and common problems, but we've had 2 somewhat abnormal issues with my 10mo that I've had to seek other proffessional advice on.

I've seen so many answers here that give advice to trust what your peditrician tells you. Obviously, the asker is second guessing the advice of their doc if they're asking a question.

What do you think/do? Always trust the doctor or research their advice?

I'd like to say I do, but mother's intuition is very strong sometimes and when that kicks in, I get a second opinion. I know he is a good dr., but if you think there is something wrong then it is worth looking in to.

I trust mine, but also keep an open mind, sometimes its always better to get a second opinion and makes you more comfortable, some pediatricians are great while others lack some knowledge so seeking other proffessional advice is the right thing to do if you feel you need to.

i always trust my doctor. i don't even have a pediatrician for my kids and have always seen a general practitioner. i realize that i am not an expert...in anything medical. i am a licensed family therapist and our doc has given me some invaluable family dynamics tips....that I am supposed to be the expert in...not him!

sure, there are somethings i nod my head to and ignore. there are also some things that he has not been right about...but hello! he's only human! and it's never really that important anyway. for a normal healthy child the worst case scenario is your doc diagnoses a certain illness, treatment doesn't work and he revisits his diagnosis. alternatively, he has no idea and refers you to a specialist. .......if it ever became a literal life or death decision, sure, i might get a second opinion. i am lucky that he always frank with me....tells me there are very little things that are actually life or death and indulges my obsessive mother tendencies by giving me a reality check.

i guess i'm just lucky to have a matter of fact, no nonsense doc. i wish there were more of them out there.

It depends on what issues we are talking about. I have not gone to the pediatrician for parenting or breastfeeding needs because there are other sources which specialize in those areas and give better advice.

We have had the same pediatrician for 7 years and I trust every *medical* decision she has made. My son has had more health problems, but she has always made appropriate recommendations and referrals. If I have questions or disagreements about something, she takes time to listen to me and address those issues. To me, this is what makes a good pediatrician.

for the most part i trust my sons pedi. ;; my husband & his 3 brothers had the same pedi. growing up & hes so far been great with my son! my son had some serious medical issues around 1.5months, and he got everything in order, very quickly & put my son into the hospital right away!

but i've also heard some stories that hes told mothers they were crazy in the head & their baby wasnt sick, and they went to someone else & their son ending up in the hospital, really sick, and was in there for almost a month!

so i take it visit by visit, i've told my husband if he does something i dont approve of im going to switch my son to my childhood pedi. ;; because i know her very well and trust her more, and shes also a family friend.

you can never ever trust a doctor 100%, even they make mistakes!
good luck!

We totally trust our doctor.. he's been my whole family's doctor for years.. and before him, his father was our family doctor.. but we STILL ask others when we get advice from him just to compare and see what their doctor's have told them about similar situations. I may occassionally ask on here.. just to compare. A little research to back up a doctor's advice isn't a bad thing.. it's just reassurance. Best wishes.

I trust my babies Dr. The first Dr. we had I did not so we switched. I went from a pediatrician to a general practice dr who has a child just a few months older than my son.
HOWEVER... they are just people who get their knowledge from books. Everyone makes mistakes

You have to be proactive about your health care, no matter what. Doctors are just people who read a lot of books, and listened to a lot of other people.

I dont trust any doctor. But I do like my sons pediatrician, i'd trust him before any other doctor. But then again, we dont go to doctors except for vaccine and extreme illnesses.

Yes - we did a lot of word of mouth research before we chose him - we know several other people who go to him also, and a lot of nurses take their kids to him too...because they see how good he is in practice at the hospital...so yes, I trust our paediatrician. That said, I always do my homework before I go in with my kids so I can ask more direct questions.
