well i think having it close to your job is a good idea because yes, you can get there in case of an emergency. But also, daycares may close at a certain time. For instance if you get off work at 5:30 and the day care closes at 6:00 well then you only have half an hour to pick up your child. You wouldnt be able to make it to a day care near home if your home is 45 minutes away. The quickest you could be there is 6:15 and you would be monetarily penalized for being late.
Also, yes it is beneficial and nice to have an extra 45 minutes to bond with your child alone each day, twice a day. But that's just my opinion.

Well, you still need to research the center, even if it's in a 'nice' area. You could be a total whacko and rent a space in a nice area, import dead beats that live in 'bad' areas to work there and pay them nothing and open your doors as a child care center to parents that believe they are safe because they spent a million dollars on a home in a 'nice' area. This kind of stuff happens all the time. So do your research. And yes, whether it's a nice area or not I'd have my baby close to my or my husband's work area.

I'm going to go off the path and say close to home. Sure, work is closer to daycare. But close to home is less driving you have to do with your baby in the car (call me crazy but driving on the highway near my home scares me, lots of bad accidents and speeders, and I would prefer to keep my children off that road). Plus, if you ever have a day off or something and need to get things done (esp when your baby is older and into everything) it's easier to drop him/her off for a few hours, run errands and then pick him/her up. Interview with centers at both places and see if one just doesn't jump out at you. Also, if you ever get a new job, you won't have to change centers. But the same can be said if you move and keep your job. It could really be argued either way. Just see what you like and go with it.

Close to home. I work in child care. We had a parent who lost her job and she was closer to home. She was able to find a new job, and did not have to switch day cares. She was already comfortable with us, and was able to stay with us. And lets say that you have the day off, but have a doctor appointment. If you want to drop the baby off for an hour or two, it would be convenient to do so.

I would like my child close to work so I could be there faster in case of an emergency and then you could spend the ride to and from daycare/work together. It's the little moments that count.

Close to home. First it's safer for them not to be in the car for 1.5 hours a day. Second, if they decide they want to scream, that's 45 min of screaming you have to hear.
My kids are about half way, but slightly closer to home.

Closer to work...that way if there is ever an emergency, you can be there quickly. If you have others near your home who could tend to an emergency, that would be fine too.
