Anyone out there in a similar situation?

I have been hearing a child rearing technique that I honestly don't know what it means.

My 4 month old goes to bed well but wakes at night. She is not hungry (she hardly eats), she just wakes up and is not able to fall back asleep. Pacifiers, rocking, etc. does not work for her. Please do not admonish me for this method. I'm simply looking into it. Crying it out for a little while works for my child when she goes down to bed and I just wanted to find out more.

My 9 mo. old son was newly diagnosed with an ear infection in both ears on Friday. He's been on antibiotics and motrin since then, but this morning he started having a cough that sounds like he's trying to hack up his lungs! Before I go rushing to the doctor I wanted to see if it was normal, especially since today is a holiday and his doctor would be hard to get ahold of. He's acting ok and he has some congestion and he gurgles a little when he breathes, but he's had the runny nose/congestion since Friday when we found out he had ear infections. Is it normal for his to cough like he's almost coughing up lung???

Given that "What to Expect When You're Expecting" is

(a) "the pregnancy bible"
(b) garbage, in my opinion

...I'm a little leery of baby-care books. If there's one you thought was junk -- even if it was just you, and everybody else loves it -- could you mention the name, and tell me why you disliked it? Thanks!

She is a total hyprocondriac and really worries me! Yesterday my little boy (15 months) went to her for the afternoon, she brought him home about bedtime telling me he had mild whooping cough!! WTF???

He had a wee cough and had been sick through coughing but also might have something to do with the fact she still gives him bottles of formula during the day even though he is of it completey and has a cup of cows milk at bedtime - I have tried telling her 100 times!

HELP!

My son is 4 months old and already has a separation problem. I really wasn't sure what was happening until we when for our 4 month old check up. The doctor right away said..He is starting this really early..Anyway..HELP. We are having problem getting him down at night and staying down. He was always are good kid to put down at night. Now he gets us 2 - 3 times within 2 hours. Once we pick him up he falls right back to sleep. He was also always a very good sleeper. From the time he was born. Now he is getting up every 3 hours....

When I was pregnant, my baby started kicking every morning at 4. Now he's 5 and a half months already and he still wakes up at 4 every morning. What can we do to break this habit? Obviously it was funny when I was pregnant, but it's not any more! Most of the time he'll be wide awake!

In the UK we are advised (Health Professionals and SIDS advice) to keep our babies in our bedrooms for the first 6 months. My baby is 6 weeks old and will outgrow her moses basket within the next 2 weeks. I can fit the cot in my room (at a squeeze!).
But, I was wondering what other new parents do at this stage, as not everyone can fit a cot in their bedroom. Have parents started to use the Nursery this early? How do they feel about it? Is there any alternatives I haven't thought of?
Any advice appreciated, thanks

Looking for inspiration and previous experiences... thought about Cape Town, skiiing, Mauritius etc Obviously non-malarial is a requirement, otherwise usual considerations apply when going away with a baby. Open to any ideas, beach, activity etc just want to have fun.
