Newborn & Baby - January 2007

My 5 month will only stay asleep for the entire night in my arms. The initial attempt to put him in his crib around 10pm works out fine but he's awake about an hour later.
So, I then rock him and he falls asleep easily, however the minute I put him in his crib he wakes up. After a few attemps, I give up and bring him to bed with me..

Another thing that I'm having a hard time with is that when he's in his crib I still can't sleep. I keep worrying that he'll suffocate under his blankets, or somehow the cats will pry open the door and decide to cuddle with him.

So I kind of have to "wean" myself from him too.
Because I can't sleep without him. But I also know that he needs to be independent and sleep in his crib.

Another thing is is that he only falls asleeps with motion.. I always have to rock or nurse him to sleep. How can I get him to just fall asleep? Is he too young still?

My son is almost 11 months old and can drink juice and water from a cup with no problems at all. He still has a handled cup, but I will chage soon. However, as soon as I put in his milk, he throws it away and spits out the milk. I have tried putting handles on his bottle but he won't touch it, he prefers me to do it. I have read in all the books that babies should be off the bottle by 12 months, but he refuses point blank!!

My cousingave me her breast pump. she said all I have to do is buy replacement parts for it. She said I could get them off the internet. For a Ameda Purely Yours double electric pump. I'm 37 weeks along. I'm worried if I order them over the internet they will cost a fortune and also that the baby will come early before the parts get here. does anyone know 1 if there are any stores that just sell these parts and I can walk in and get them and 2 if I have to order them online where is the cheapest place to look? thank you

My daughter is 2 1/2 and is sitting a car seat that converts from infant to todder. She has the harnets that strap across her chest but it's starting to get a bit too tight. She's a tall girl for her age. Wondering at what age is she able to have the regular seat belt go across her chest? Any help would be appreciated.

Iam stopping breastfeeding with my daughter of three weeks, for health reasons. What will I experience with this and how should I go about it safely and (somewhat) comfortably?

I am now back at work, and am want to completely wean my almost 1 yr old. I could still breast feed in the mornings/afternoons if I wanted to, but to be honest, I've done my duty and don't feel guilty about my choice (so no negative remarks pls).
Anyhow...I've succesfully elimated all the 3 day feedings, and am on the last feed of the day (bedtime). Last night was my first attempt at skipping that one, my left breast is dry (and small), my right breast on the other hand is signifanctly larger, it's rather engorged, and is starting to be painful(but it's still early in the day).

After all that, I'm wondering if you used warm or cold compresses to relieve the "swelling" ? Some people say pump a bit to relieve the pressure but is that the best way to go ?

How long did it take for your chest to be of normal proportion ? Will the uneaveness of the sides go back to how they were before ?

Thanks

taking the sides off her cotbed?
I want to do it before the new baby comes (June), but not too close so that its still a stress for her when the baby arrives.
Could I do it now or should I just leave it until she is a lot older and the new baby is sleeping in the room with her?

My son was born at 37 weeks weighing 7lbs 13 ounces. taking a bottle all the time since day one, at one week old doc check up he was up to almost 9lbs. for the past three weeks he has been taking about 4-6 ounces every hour during the day and about 8 ounces at night every 2-4 hours. Now he always wants to eat and never seems satisfied...EVER. he isn't stuffing himself because he never pukes it up, he isn't being satisfied. Usually at night after a bottle he would be fussy and cry until his next feeding, last night I put a LITTLE rice ceral in his bottle and he was calm and relaxed until he fell asleep and woke for his next bottle 3-4 hours later. I think it helped satisfy him. Is this ok as long as its only one bottle at night? Its just a tiny bit of ceral and he really calms down with it.

For 3 weeks now my boy has been sleeping from 7:30pm until 4 or 5 am. After a feed (8 ounces) at 4 or 5 he would go back to sleep until 8 or 8:30 am. For the past 4 nights now he is waking up around 1:30 am, wanting to eat and taking 8 ounces. Then waking up again around 5 am, wanting to eat again and taking about 5 ounces. Do you think I should start him on cereal? He is 16 weeks old and has had a lot of digestive problems, so I was trying to hold off, but he seems so hungry at night now. If you think I should start cereal would you recommend cereal in the bottle or spoon feeding?

Don't think I can do the controlled crying thing, have tried once and couldn't last more than 20mn. He won't take a dummy so I end up breastfeeding or rocking him to sleep..

Am pregnant 4 1/2 months pregnant with twins. I work part-time and go to school full time. One of my classes is very hard and it takes very long time in front of the computer( 3-6 hours a day even more sometimes). Not to mention that my back and stomack hurts because of sitting in front of the computer for many hours, and also trying to get my other class assignements done.Do you think i should drop that 1 difficult class just for the safety of my twins.

Thanks

My son went to his grandma's house on sat. His counsins were over. One counsin had some type of virus that lasted 2 days. The other counsin is about 7 months and is teething. She had a slight fever and a cold. Last night my son threw up his whole bottle. Then later in the night he caught a slight fever. I gave him some baby tyenol, and the fever went down. As the night went on, i checked his temperature and it was fine. I notice this morning that he hasn't used the bathroom since yesterday afternoon. His pamper is completely dry. His papmper was last between 2-5 yesterday. Since he sleeps thru the night, I usually give him a bottle between 6-7 in the morning. When he drinks first thing in the morning, it is guaranteed that he will drink 4-6 ounces. This morning he only drunk 2. I am not sure what is going on with him. I told his father if he doesn't go to the bathroom by 12 then I will take him to the hospital. Has this every happened to anyone before. He is only 3 months.
