Whatever he will tolerate.

My oldest daughter was on junior foods for two months by then, but she had a good set of teeth from 4 months, and she was a big eater (although never fat--she was growing tall fast though).

My youngest daughter was only on formula at 8 months. She refused to eat any sort of cereal or jarred baby food. She would allow you to put it in her mouth, but she would spit it right back at you. I finally got desperate one night and took some of the spaghetti (meat and mushroom sauce) that we were having for supper, and put it through the blender until it was chopped coarsely (she had teeth, too). And then I put one spoonful in her mouth. Following her usual routine, she was in the process of spitting it out, with the food hanging there on her tongue, when her taste buds must have kicked in. The food disappeared back into her mouth, as if it had been vacuumed! And from then on, she was like a baby bird, sitting there with her mouth open and screaming because I wasn't shovelling it in fast enough. She totally devoured that first bowl of food in less than 5 minutes, and was howling the whole time I prepared more. Thank God that she was satisfied by the end of the second bowl! From then on, I only ground up whatever we were having for our meal and fed that to her, and she never refused food again.

The explanation...when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, I craved tomatoes and fresh fruit, so she was used to the bland diet from the womb, and baby food was acceptable. When I was pregnant with the youngest, I craved hot foods, and would consume half a jar of hot mixed pickles every day. I figured that made my youngest used to spicy foods, and she just wasn't going to tolerate the blandness of baby food.

Most babies know when they are full and will stop eating. Some babies eat a lot! I know my son certainly did and now I have a little girl who is 10 mos old and she doesn't eat anything compared to her brother at the same age. As long as you are not forcing food down his gullet, he'll be fine. Babies eat when they are hungry and won't when they are full. They also go through ups and downs with this. There are periods of time that they won't want to eat anything then all of a sudden, they can't get enough! Usually that co-insides with a growth spurt that will be coming on soon. Hope this helps. If you are really worried, talk about it with your pediatrician. Either wait for the next well-baby visit or call and they usually can discuss it on the phone.

How ever much he wants to eat. Solids are not needed until 12 months or even later, nutritionally. Before that they are for fun and learning.

So don't worry your son is getting everything he needs from breastmilk or formula.

When my son was 8 month he ate about ever other day. Now at 11 months most days he eats two "meals". But probably less than 2oz all day. No big deal. Also I don't do baby food, check out:

He is very content and happy! Sometimes i give him a rusk but he is usually just happy with his normal 3 meals a day!!!!!

He will tell you anyway, you offer him food he will either eat it or wont eat it!

Hope this helps!

Mine eats two things per meal. For example, for breakfast he has a small bowl of baby oatmeal and a thing of applesauce. For lunch he has a jar of veggies and a baby yogurt. For dinner he has "dinner" baby food and fruit. Each meal is accompanied by a half-cup of formula.
