[I actually asked this in the right section (Society and Culture), but there's a bunch of trolls and ignorant people there and less here, so I'm asking again]
I'm half black, but can admit that I look in a magazine or something and see the light skinned model as prettier than a more dark skinned one or something. I know I'm not alone in this, and it isn't just about race. But are we as Americans taught (and somewhat brainwashed) into believing that we're ugly and can never live up to the people in the media? Because even if we KNOW they're not perfect and nobody can really truly be that amazing looking or smart or whatever it is all the time, we still compare oursleves to them like we can. It's really sad...

i like this boy A LOT but i cant stand his name. i prefer 2 call him kay or sumthin but kaiser, yuck! what do u think of it. alot of people think its a "white boy" name or indian name but he's just black and must i say....KUTE! lol so do u like it? what does it make u think of!?

My four-year-old has become a little hellion virtually overnight. We're having a very hard time finding the cause: he thinks it's funny, he's not going through any adjustment or changes that I can figure out, but he was doing really really good up to about two or three weeks ago, then has started having huge temper tantrums (something he never did before), telling his teachers "no", running away when they tell him to come over, etc.

Today, there was a note in his cubby that he was taking other kids' belongings and putting them in his cubby, covering them with his blanket and change of clothes.

We're doing the best we can to find a method of discipline that will effect him.

I'm not interested in hearing your opinions on how we should make it stop, your opinions about whether spanking is right or wrong, or anything like that.

I could just really use some encouragement right now. Do you know anyone who was awful as a preschooler and grew up to be kind and conviction-free?

I have a 3 week old son. I have been trying to breastfeed, but it seems he has a huge appetite. From what I have read, he should be consuming about 2-4oz per feeding. I breast feed for at least a half hour and when it seems he is done, he goes rooting around for more milk. Last week and weekend I pumped to see what I was generally producing and I was getting about 4 -6 oz per pumping session (20 minutes both breasts). Now starting Monday, I am only getting about 2-3 oz for the same session time. I have been giving him breast milk bottles and he has been eating at least 4 oz or more each feeding. A few times he has eaten one 4oz bottle and then was still hungry and finished another 4oz bottle right afterwards. I am pumping every hour and a half and getting about 2 ounces. His appetite is big and my breasts are not producing. I am wondering why I am not making more milk? I have had to supplement with formula sometimes because he wants to eat so much. I need help!

My gf has major asthma attack and her mom wants me to pratice rescue breathing on my gf as she watches. I have seen her sister do it on her for about five minutes but then she had to stop as my gf needed to use her nebulizer and do a breathing treatment. Is it ok for me to do it on her??? Can i do it for five minutes??? has anyone else ever done rescue breathing on anyone??? Is her mom odd for asking me to do this???

In my Chemistry class, their is a guy in there that just started talking to me last week, and he was being nice to me, (I think he was flirting with me, I dunno.) and I thought about hanging out with him sometime. Then when the bell rang to go to lunch he was behind me and pushed me to the side and said "You're in my way." I think that he was kidding. Then the next time I had that class he kept calling me "Cheater" the whole class, I think that he was kidding then too. And today he still called me "Cheater", ironically we had a sub today and HE was cheating on the test with his friends. Why is he being nice one day, and being sorta rude the next?

Okay, so I have a question about the tooth fairy. My daughter is five and my step son is 7. He's lost several teeth and his mom puts his tooth under his pillow and she takes it and leaves $. That's the way my mom did it too. That is also the was I've been doing it with my daughter. She lost her 3rd tooth just now and is in Kindergarten. If the kids loose a tooth they can bring it to school and she gives them a necklace to put it in or something. Sooo...what should I do about the tooth fairy tonight? Wait until tomorrow night maybe? This is totally wishful thinking because we are only TTC...but my husband and I were talking last night on how we would exactly surprise our families with the news (should this be our month....fingers crossed!).

We finally came up with announcing it at our Thanksgiving meal...where our families are joined together...we want our son to wear a "I'm a Big Brother" shirt and just see who notices first...then obviously have the big announcement at that point. We know we'd have to arrive last...to make sure everyone was there to hear the news....

But, is this too much for a holiday gathering? We like the idea...but are open to others....

What do you think? How did you announce your pregnancy to your families?

last week i had an appointment with my ob-gyne and the results we're ok..my blood pressure was 110/70 and my baby's development is great..but what happened? 9days after that checkup, i went back to my ob to have myself checked again because i always felt dizzy..and oh my god, my blood pressure dropped to 80/40. we don't know what happened, i was taking my iron supplements daily, was drinking my milk twice each day and i was eating more vegetables than before..but the difference now is i take my iron supplement with milk..was this the cause?i remembered when i studied nursing (which i wasn't able to finish)that iron shouldn't be taken in with milk..what do u think guys?i'm 23 weeks pregnant.
