I know, we all do some variation of the following: fruit, candy, socks, chonies, stickers, cars for boys, jewelry/makeup for girls, 99cent store trinkets. But I'm hoping to snag some truly unique ideas from you guys. YES I KNOW IT'S EARLY, but the Spirit starts early around here. So what's your best stocking stuffer idea? Thanks!

If we were bad, my parents would threaten us with dead puppies and lumps of coal in our stockings. Fun times!
I always kive my kids a new toothbrush. A fancy one, like one of those tooth tunes.

we celebrate christmas like regular families, & although i can't think of anything unusual that i have put in the stockings, throughout the year i tend to give what some people would think of as unusual or strange gifts, esp to my son. a couple of years ago i came into a small unexpected windfall, as at the time money was tight, i was a single parent with a mortgage, so i wanted to spend the money where it would be most useful. i told my son that i had bought him a present (not serious that it was actually for im, 14y at the time), he had been hanging out for a ps2, so be the time i got home he was jumping out of his skin. when i opened the boot/trunk of the car & there was a shiny new lawn mower & fuel can, you can imagine the disappointing look on his face & he didn't say much that evening. the next morning he was up bright & early & putting on socks & shoes, hat etc (we weren't planning on going anywhere). when i questioned him as to what he was doing & why he was up so early, he said "i'm going to mow the lawn!" he was very happy & proud. (strange kid!!!) however, this year, now 16 he started his own mowing business.
then this year, coinciding with a heap of relatives visting us, i bought my son a set of 3 scourers/geen scratchy pot cleaners. i presented these to him as a present, again, with many strange looks from the rellies but with glee & excitement from my son, as his job is to do the dishes & the scrubbers kept disappearing. he does have normal toys & kids stuff & is far from being neglected or want for anything, but he does love those day to day chores.
he's a strange kid but i'm glad & proud that he can find enjoyment in even the simplest things in life & be amused by his mother's warped sense of humour.
so my suggestion would be that if the have chores to do perhaps something related to that, or even a new mouse pad, a special packet of novelty tissues/toilet paper, glue for craft projects, a plant or seeds & a pot, a picture of a pet they'd like, maybe oil to oil the bikes, just everyday type of stuff i reckon, you'll be surprised.

I know the feeling, I started christmas shopping in like august! It depends on the age for me too, I have certian things I give that are special when they are at some age. When they are 13, offically teenagers, I give them a moonstone necklace with matching earrings and ring, at least I did for my oldest and am trying to hold up the tradition.
The best way to make stockings more fun (I've found) is to make little boxs of cool items and stuff them in, so the stocking is full of color, then I fill the boxs with whatever interest them. My kids really love colorful tights, so I normally get them a few pairs of those.
I like to joke with my girls to, last year I put lacy bra in my then 14 year olds stocking, she almost died but thought it was funny.
How about gift certificates for older kids, that way its like giving them money, but for something specific and they can't just go spend it on candy.
I don't know if that helped, but hope it did a little!

Depends on the age. It used to be fun pens, pencils, erasers, and stickers when I was young. As I got older, it was make-up, money, etc. I don't have one great idea because my best gifts as a kid were under the tree, not in my stocking.

I actually did play a trick on my kids last year and put some coal in theirs. I hid the real stockings for later, it was great fun and they took it well all in fun (they were 6 & 9).

Confetti. I sprinkle confetti all throughout the stockings, and sometimes on the presents too. It's not really a gift, but makes the stockings that much more special for them.

I wish you were my mother. Wow, you're truly inspired. Ok, I'm 23 and I remember the most unique gift my mother gave in my stocking was about 20 small marshmallows in a bag. Attached to the bag was a poem about "snowman poop." Perhaps you heard of it, perhaps not. Heres the link: http://www.kidsturncentral.com/holidays/christmas/ccrafts2.htm

lol I remember one year when i came up with this really funny idea of actually giving coal to my little sister, it turns out that, on christmas morning when I opened up my stocking, there it was.... a HUGE lump of coal. at first i thought that i was looking in my sisters stocking and not mine, but it had my name on it. My parents had thought that i deserved the coal more than my sister did :D so i ended up getting the coal!!!

My parents used to put sardines in our stockings, and we were actually excited about them and ate them... weird. I cannot even look at them now, gross. Give them socks. That was always a favorite of mine.

Well, my parents used to put "coupons" to get out of chores and stuff. Like "Get out of dish duty for one day." They would give each of us three coupons and they all were different ones and we could trade if we wanted.
