Pregnancy & Parenting - 2 October 2007

I am looking for suggestions for baby shower decorations that aren't cheezy and from the $ store like all my friends are suggesting:) It's going to be at a restaurant, so I have to keep in minimal. I already ordered floral centerpieces in pink (she's having a girl). Anything you suggest will be helpful, thanks!

I've read that Doctors recomend waiting 18 months before trying for another baby. I don't want to wait that long. Is 17 months okay to start trying? I know it's only by a month and the chances are only 25% to concieve in the first try but I got pregnant with our first on our first try and my mom and her mom and my aunt all got pregnant on all of their first tries with all of their kids.

I was just curious as to when WIC stops giving you checks for formula? I think it is 6 months..Also, when can I stop using formula and start giving my baby regular cow's milk? She is 6 months old. My sister said that she started at 6 months, but I've heard a year..but my mom said when all 4 of us kids were babies, that she never even used formula and she fed us all evaporated milk.

I have 3 year old twins. My daughter is in panties already, with accidents that are few and far between. My son, however, isn't going potty. It's really frustrating, because I want to get him potty trained already!!
Does anyone have any tips on what I could do to make this happen? Right now, I have him in undies and I'm taking him to the potty to sit every 15 minutes or so.

Heres the situation!! I work at a juvenile correctional facility which is a demanding job, but i absolutely love it....i also attend school full time, on campus, and am a single mom to a three year old boy!! i dont want to give up school or work because both of those are going to make life for me and my son much better in the long run....but i feel bad that he doesnt have tons of quality time with me....he is well adjusted so hes not neglected or anything...i just feel that i am missing out on seeing him grow up...i am missing little things on the day to day basis.....how do i get over the feeling of guilt and still be an awesome mom?????????

OK well my almost 6 month old daughter is really big!!!! My ped said she is healthy, but she is getting close to being over weight... She is 21.12 lbs and 27 1/4 in long... Yah I told u she was HUGE!!! LOL she is in 12-18 month old clothing... Now my ped said she is healthy (I got a 2nd opition just to make sure) and that she is a big girl, so she will need to eat more... Now my daughter opens her mouth wide for solid foods, she is sitting up all by herself, and she loves to pull up and stand up... So development wise she is far ahead, but I am not sure if she is over feeding herself or what.. now she will tell you when she is full, but I think her problem is that she eats so fast that she does not feel when she is full... SO I am going to try an experment and I want some advice.... My daughter was eating 5 2nd stage jars of food and 16-24oz of formula plus some cereal.. LOL yah I know a lot... my ped said it was ok because she was a big girl and she asked 4 all of it...

Hey, I asked this in another area and got a lot of mixed opinions, so I wanted to ask actual parents.

I'm planning on giving my girlfriend of one year a promise ring. There are definite reasons why we aren't going for an engagement ring: 1.) She doesn't want to be engaged before she turns 20, and she'll be a month shy of that... 2.) She still has another year and a half of college left, and I don't want her mixing school and wedding planning when she can't handle that, and 3.) I want to be more settled financially before taking that step.

Everyone in my other question seems to be in agreement that it's not as big of a deal because a promise ring is between her and me. But my question is.... in this situation, would you be more upset if I didn't say anything to you as a parent about this, or would it be better not to bring it up (because it might create anxiety thinking about having your only daughter one day moving out). Please be honest, I want to do this the RIGHT way.

I see something almost every week on the news..Larry King, CNN, 60 minutes, 20/20 about Vaccinations, so why aren't more parents paying attention..1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism..also other things such as eczema and allergies have been thought to be resulted by having vaccinations..

I'm 16 and watch 3 kids on a regular basis ages 2, 3, and 5. The 5 yo has been having some behavior problems lately (gradually getting better) and after one incident that happened a few weeks back, and something else he did when he was with his parents, he lost the pleasure of having a birthday party and having his friends spend the night. Now his mom is giving him the chance of earning it back with good behavior. She told me that if he starts acting up to remind him about his party. And so far, it's been working. But i think i've been starting to use it as a scape goat, every time he does something, he's reminded of the birthday party. Is this like bribing him to behave? should i continue doing it as often?

Okay - I don't have children, but hopefully one day I will have lots! I just ask this question to find out what you all think about this topic. I know there are some very strong opinions about this but please be respectful. I honestly don't know where I stand yet. I have a good career (social worker), but it is so very stressful and sometimes I think it would be nice to get out of it when I have children. But if I did, my husband's salary (Baptist preacher) wouldn't be near enough to live on. Plus, I wonder what some of our congregation and conservative friends will think if I want to work after I have children. What do you do and why?

me and my bf have been together for about 3 years and sunday (sept 30) we had unprotected sex and i wanna take a pregnancy test just to be sure. now i just got off my period sept 25 and i dont wanna wait untill 5 days after a missed period. so how long am i suppose to wait after having sex to take a test?

and please no one say anything about the whole unprotected sex thing. i know i shouldn't have and my friend has already been gettin on my butt ever since i told her.
