My husband had his ASD done 2 years back and this is our first child. We are both 25 years.I want to know whether there are any benefits of getting the test done now rather than waiting after the baby is born.

Carrot, Egg, and Coffee

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee...You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl.

Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak.

The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?"

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity?

Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

---When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.

Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

You might want to send this message to those people who mean something to you or to those whom you consider to be COFFEE, (I JUST DID)
It's easier to build a child than repair an adult.

This is so true - may we all be COFFEE.

I have missed maybe 2 pills in the last 4 packs and have taken them within 24hours. I am in the green pills and on the 5 out of 7th day for my period and I havent bled one bit. I have a cold and am taking some antibiotics but I am concerned. I took a pregnancy test and it said I was negative, although I was told it could be a false positive or false negative. Does anyone know anything on this topic? Please help!

I had my first son 3 months ago. He was due on July 2nd, but because he was growing a lot and I was small, she decided that I should be induced on the 5th. I went to the hospital at 7pm. When all the paper work was done, my doctor broke my water at 9:04 Pm. My contractions started immediately. I didn't need Pitocin. I breathed through my contractions and my doctor went home. They had to call her back almost as soon as she left because in a little over an hour I had fully dilated. I pushed for 17 minutes and delivered a 9lb 1oz baby boy at 11:04 Pm..just two hours after breaking my water. I didn't get an epidural because it went so fast. I got very very lucky with my labor. How was yours?

Our daughter is 19 months old, really laid back and friendly. I'm a stay at home mom. My husbands co-worker has to change shifts for a short period of time and would need someone to watch his 1 year old boy. I would be paid of course. I love children and have even been itching for a second child. But two toddlers at once... hmmm... I used to do daycare for CARDV(center against rape and domestic violence) so I am used to caring for several (often disturbed) chidren at once. But of course, never in my own home, and never with my own child. Does anyone out there who has experience in similar situations have any advice on how to keep things organized, keep my sanity, and just what it is like? Any pointers are welcome. Thankyou so much.

My daughter is over a year and a half old. I know its important to respond to a babies cries when they are young, so they feel secure and trust you. Does that apply to toddlers? If I put my daughter to bed when she is obviously tired, and I know there is nothing wrong, is it harmful to her mentally in any way to let her fuss for 5-10 minutes until she falls asleep? She often goes right to sleep, but occasionally is just trying to fight sleep. It seems to be helping, teaching her to self-soothe, and that she cant always get her way by fussing, but its not going to cause any probs in the long run is it?

So as I posted yesterday I took a home pregnancy test on the day of my missed period which was october 9th. It was positive..faintly positve..but as they say "any two lines means positive" So I went to the doctors yesterday being late and all thought I would confirm at the doctors. The doctor gave me a urine test and it was negative. So I went and had a blood test done today. I get the results tomorrow or the next day. Here's where it gets juicy..I took another HPT today "First Response" and it was CLEARLY positive like DARK. So I am expecting the blood tests to come back positve. Doctors are sometimes so insensitive.. I went to a clinic not my regular doctor because he was closed.. But it just makes me realize how easily they brush you off. Has this happened to you? Where a doctor completely blew you off and you KNEW you were pregnant?

When I was about 13 I had to start taking birth control pills to regulate my period. I stopped taking them about 1 year and a half - 2 years ago trying to get pregnant, but nothing happened. I am now 19 yrs. old, and in July, I took birth control for about 2 or 3 weeks, and then stopped. I have only had a period once since then, and it was a very heavy flow that lasted for about a week. I haven't had a period since June, (except for a little spotting here and there) therefore I have no idea when I am ovulating. I have taken probably 7 or 8 pregnancy tests that were all negative. My financee and I desperatley want a child. I have had my annual exam this year, and I am free of infections and diseases, and my gynocologist says there's no reason I can't conceive. So how so I get pregnant?

My soon to be one year old has started hitting her head on things. She'll sit up against something and hit the back of her head against it. Not very hard. I know that some kids do this and the doctors say it's a phase. But my first daughter never did this and it worries me to see my little girl hitting her head. Did anyone else go through this with thir kids? Any advice? I'm a stay at home mom and I am with her all the time. I don't think she could be trying to get attention. She gets more than enough from all of us.

is it agaist the law for childcare facilities to not inform parents
that the child is soley going to be supervised alone with a "male worker" whom you have never been introduced to?
aren't they at least obligated to inform the parent? Especially if they were never introduced to the individual?
