Somehow the electric ones seem like a good idea (as if you are made of money). Unplug the speakers, plug in your headphones and enjoy. I'm sure there is going to be some taping noise, but if you're in the garage, maybe the sound won't reach your kid.

Your wife has a job, and you don't help her deal with a child that wakes up "like every minute"??

Help your wife with the kid at night. Whatever she needs you to do, help her out. Even if she's breast feeding, you can find ways to help (breast pump / store milk / you feed the kid).

Let the hobby wait until the child can sleep through the night.

And buy an inexpensive practice pad that makes very little noise, if you absolutely must practice.

If you can try practicing while the baby is awake. Babies love music and love to dance...drum something for you kid....maybe he will grow up and love music.
