I've been out of the service for 15 years, but served active duty in Desert Storm through the Army Nat'l Guard. I recently lost my job a few months ago and have no health insurance. Lately I think I might have symptons that could lead to me being a diabetic. Can anyone tell me what I need to have before I go to the VA hospital. I would hate to make such a long drive and not have what I need. Also...is just serving 180 days active duty in Desert Storm through the Army Nat'l Guard qualify me for this? Thanks!

A friend of mine enlisted in the Navy as soon as he graduated from high school. He wanted to get away from his abusive father. He lived alone with him.

As some probably know, I was having the whole Navy/ Air Force delima. Well I have made my decision to the Navy, based on facts, statistics, and of course, more importantly, my own personal reasons. My friend is going in also, and for human resources. We were told the A School for human resources located in Athens, GA. Is that true? Also, will she most likely get more shore or sea time?

I am a American Veteran now living in Australia and a permanant resident. Australians even with gold cards are not honored in the states. I have a universal medical card but have been refused to use it here. Unfortunately, this is costly to this country through Medicare; when if I lived in the states I would receive Veteran benefits. The Vietnam organization here even tried to help, but failed, and was told there was no agreement. When I moved here I was told by the states I could use my benefits. I was told that if I had moved to Canada or New Zealand or any other Allied Euopean Country that it would be honored. Somehow this doesn't seem right to the veterans or to the countries that they move to....someone has to have a answer or is going through the same thing I am. thanks deb

One on one battles between submarines were rare. Not counting surprise attacks when submarines sank enemy submarines, which usually involved surprise.

Here we have a late World War II American submarine squaring off against the most common long-range German U-Boat. Consider everything in this battle. Stealth, survivability of the design, weaponry. Assume crews of approximately equal capabilities.

Captains are free to fight submerged or surfaced, but ultimately the best combination of technological advantages wins the day.

Who would that be? USN or Kriegsmarine?

Japan bombed your military base which isn't that bad. Germany were much more Heavily into the war invading everything they could, killing many more people.
i wonder if it was more of a Racist thing having the Japanese look more different to Americans than the Germans in general?

I have heard stories that convoys in the Army will sometimes paint USMC or Marine Corps on the side of their convoys so they dont get attacked, because the insurgents dont like fighting the Marines...i could be totally off here and i dont mean to offend anyone just want to know if anyone who has served there has seen anything like this happen...

Why, seriously, would anyone be daft enough to join the army? I will tell you why - as their is a serious lack of job opportunity in the UK for young men nowadays. Little or no prospect of an apprenticeship and gaining a real trade. Plus, going to a phony war over there. They need their nuts looked at and dont give me queen and country crap. not having that. that was 80 years ago.
