As some probably know, I was having the whole Navy/ Air Force delima. Well I have made my decision to the Navy, based on facts, statistics, and of course, more importantly, my own personal reasons. My friend is going in also, and for human resources. We were told the A School for human resources located in Athens, GA. Is that true? Also, will she most likely get more shore or sea time?

My friend's decision has nothing to do with the choice I made (for all the idiots that think that). I chose Navy over Air Force for more travel opportunitites. I absolutley HATE the ARMY with a passion. My step dad was in it for 25 years and I watched him go through some unnecessary BS. So I have personal reasons for hating the ARMY (although everyone else's experiences don't shape your own) but whatever....
Why can't people just ever answer the question that you ask? Why all the extra unnecessary crap?

Wow so what you are telling me is that you picked the Navy over the Air Force because your friend is joining the Navy. Remember this; when you are both in the Navy and she is across country in a boat for 6 months and you are on land. Once she gets back it will be your turn to go to sea. Get what I am saying. Why wouldn't you consider the Army? Oh yea..you have more opportunities to go to Iraq, right? Bunch of BS. You don't know how many Navy & Air Force I seen in Iraq. I am not talking about Kuwait.
All I am asking you to do is check out the other services. I will tell you this about the Army. You will know what job you WILL do before you go to basic training. If anyother branch can show you what guarenteed job you will do before initial training, that would be news for me.

Sea. Expect to go to sea. An old Chief told me once "Sailors belong on ships and ships belong at sea" The Navy changed alot of rates to longer sea rotations recently. Before you settle in a Rate/Job ask your recruiter what the advancement rates are for your rate. Sea/Shore rotations change with rank. I just completed 6 years in the Navy as an ET2 (Electronics technician Second Class E-5) My rate was very closed for a long time and it took me several years to advance from E-4 to E-5. Odds are you will go to a ship for your first command. There are only a few rates that don't go to sea much. IS (Intelligence Specialist) has fewer than most, and has billets in alot of different places. Well there is so much to consider... Well in short I will say you should expect to spent most or all of your 4 year enlistment on a ship. If you have any other questions, I would be happy to help you out. I know alot of people that were lied to by recruiters and classifiers. my email is aecf_sailor82@yahoo.com
I may not have all the answers, but I may be able to help.

human resources? Is she going to be a PN? Most admin jobs have a longer shore rotation than sea, but there's no guarantee how long she'll be at one assignment until she gets orders. Some people come out of A school on sea duty, and some on shore duty.
To the person above me, all military ranks have the same pay chart, so no, people in the Air Force don't make more money than people in the Navy. And in every branch of the military, they DO own you and your family does come second.

I just hope your personal reasons aren't based on the fact that your friend is joining the same branch. The chances of you being assigned at the same assignment are slim to none (unless the Navy has a enlistment buddy program like the Army). Then after a year or two, more then likely one of you will be shipped off to another assignment. Unless you join a very very small career field with few choices for assignments, I doubt you'll ever see your friend while your in the service again.
Though, you never know. I once ran into a kid I went to High School with in Korea. Its hit or miss, make sure you join the Navy for yourself, not someone else.

When it came time to join, I had the same dilemma. I served in the Air Force. I am also an adult leader in the US Navy Sea Cadet program. THe AF has better people system, housing food, etc. The Navy training esp in the mechnical/electronic areas tends to be better.
My choice came down to: I like my airfields near beer and girls all of the time and I wanted a place to go home to after work that wasnt at work (sea duty)

I'm sorry you chose the Navy over the Air Force. My ex-husband was in the Navy for 22 years. We both felt like the Navy thought they owned him, they don't want you to have families or a life. Their medical care sucks. When he retired, we moved from Calif. to a southern state where there is a large Air Force base. We noticed the Air Force treats their people so much better. Nicer base, better medical care, even higher pay scales I think. Of course, the military as a whole is a tough job or career to pick. The Navy will usually give you lots of sea time, thats what they're about. If you get stationed on a ship, which happens to almost everyone at some point, you'll be out to sea a lot. Not to mention going on Westpacs, if they still do them; thats 6 months at a time.

first off i don't know if it's in GA and i don't know if she will have more sea time or land duty. but what ever the case. you two will be separated after boot camp she will go to her specialty school and you will go to yours. there's a good chance your orders will differ from hers. you may see her in the future on some base but its not likely. may i offer this... go to each requiter for all the branches their all going to say basically the same thing. get all the facts and make your own decision. good luck

all ADMIN rates are being disestablished as far as shore duty, so eventually, she will be doing large Sea rotations..as many as 6 years for every 2 years of shore duty. There are some A schools in Athens.

Black is going with the whole thing. AND flipflops are truthfully entering a brand new variety- dressed in them with formal clothes and with paintings garments. Its a brand new variety thats rather making a success. SO CUTE!! and black is elegant- it rather is going with the whole thing and provides a little bit little bit of adulthood to the shoe. Id def pass with black.

You made a mistake. The Marine Corps is the way to go. You will spend your entire enlistment wishing you were a badass like that.
