well if America is what we all are told it is ("fights for the freedom and library of the human spirit...etc") then Turkey is not its ally, its rather the best enemy they have but just cant get rid off. how can a country that has committed a genocide, invades other peoples countries and call it their own, keeps peace at the cost of human lives be a friend with a country that fights for liberty, freedom and human rights. what ever the US does the Kurds will remain a close ally and fight for the US believe. you can only ask so much from the people of America, they brought Iraq and Afghanistan a better government, its not their fault the people just don't want to be free. the world is just full of evil and corrupted government like Turkey and their neighboring countries. the US is still and will always be the only hope for freedom loving people like the Kurds.

personally i am not American, but from what i have been told what America is and supposed to be, if its ever under threat i will go and fight for it. its my hope of freedom and defender of my human rights.

Well if Turkey does go into the Kurdish area, I hope the US just stays out of the way; the United States made a big mistake insulting the Turkish government with the Armenian Genocide thing. Lets return it to the Armenian Massacre and everyone will be content. A bad thing happened back then and everyone needs to be aware of it. Now that act is pushing turkey to flex some muscle to show their displeasure (although they've been having trouble with Kurdish rebels for a long time). This does not make the United States look weak at all. Besides, the United States wanted Turkey to take part in the original invasion...and why not? when Turkey rose from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire, they still claimed Iraq as far south as Mosul, and were only stopped by the Royal Air Corps.

Turkey is a good ally of ours and they have been fighting a war against thier own form of terrorists for a long time now. Now, here is our (US) dilema.

If we were to interfere with them going after the Kurdish fighters then we would be acting completely hypocritical. Tureky could then stop supporting us in the region and that would be bad on a HUGE number of levels. For this reason as long as they limit the incursions to raids and NOT a formal invasion then we WILL "sit by and let them defend their people".

On the other hand, we do appear to have some responsibility to help defend Iraq. That being said I believe we will "thread the needle" so to speak, and do nothing unless Turkey seeks to take this to a new and higher level by occupying space and acting like a conquering territory.

In general, I do NOT see this as bad for the US.

OTOH, Iran may wish to do the same and I do believe that we should NOT allow Iran to have the same access or priveleges to pursue the Kurdish rebels they wish to go after. Reason here is the Kurds are helping to destabilize Iran and that is good for us. If Iran gets more rational and gives up their nuclear program as well as stop funding and supplying the extremeists in Iraq then Iran should be allowed the same.

Just my opinion. I do study history and geopolitics though...

It is bad for this reason: Turkey is our ally. They are not really going to invade Iraq itself. They are possibly going to invade Kurdistan, which is a region of Iraq. The Kurds are our biggest allies in Iraq. So what is the President supposed to do? It does not make us look weak if he can find a solution for this problem without alienating either of our allies.

turkey is the only way to get our supplies to Iraq and their a huge ally of ours plus the rebels have been attacking them but on the downside the Kurdish are also our a ally and northern Iraq is the only peaceful part not to fall into civil war and turkey may just stop that but attacking them so we can basically do nothing but watch

we've no longer something to worry from Iran, they're insignificant and extremely unfavorable warriors. Embargoes and or air strikes will shop them on the right now and narrow. Turkey basically desires to retaliate against a small team of Kurds no longer the entire inhabitants of Kurds and something of Iraq. Iraqi insurgents will have not any weapons to conflict our troops if the Iranians think of they are going to prefer the weaponry they have been helping the insurgents with. no longer something to be bothered approximately!

Why would we "tell" them they cannot defend their borders??
We can ask, we cannot "demand".
The rebels ARE the problem, not Turkey. One way or another the rebels will get attacked, eventually, by Turkey, Iraq, the US or all 3. These morons have also crossed into Iran. Sadly they also have a right to defend themselves.

calm down,
Turkey is Not going to "invade" Iraq as long as the U.S. occupies the country.

The Turks don't want to go to war with a super power.

The US armed forces are hanging by a thread, the gov't is just really good at covering up their weakness, but everybody knows it. Why do you think Iran, Turkey, and others are taking this opportunity to stir up trouble? It's cause the U.S. can't do anything about it with almost all of our troops deployed. If Turkey wants to invade, they'll invade and Bush will roll over, give them what they want, then he'll praise the 'diplomatic solution' he achieved. Welcome to the future.
