What with all the talk lately about Iranian fighters in Iraq (whom I understand have been there all along), I've been wondering what are Iran's actual interests in Iraq? I do understand the political gain to be won by a marginal nation in terms of fighting the American and Western presence in the Muslim world. But, as a materialist, I have to wonder what kind of real interests are the Iranians defending or pursuing by sending fighters to Iraq? Simply sticking it to the Americans seems to have more rhetorical potential than anything else? So, what is it?

I will pick a best answer, so please don't respond to my question with more simpleminded rhetoric or bigoted responses.

The war started when a terrorist pushed a disabled man off the side of a ship in his wheel chair and not much was said. So then the bombings started Passenger planes knocked out of the sky, embassies bombed, marine barrecks bombed and nothing was said by the Libs as only Americans were killed. Then on 9/11 the war escalated and 3000 Souls died, but then the war was taken to the enemy by President Bush. Now the people who sold out The solders in the last war are back into action.

I saw a documentary about the French foreign legion and that question came to me. Since they take people from many different nations there is a possibility that France one day goes to war with the country of some of the enlisted soldiers in the legion

It seems that if there were no protests the war might be over by now. The ememy I think sees us protest in America and decides to keep attacking because they think that eventually we will leave. They see us as not united in the war effort. I think that if all the protests stopped then the war in Iraq would end sooner.

i watched a show on the new amazing weapons the americans have invented.from pin point lazer guided missiles, guns that can shoot 1 miilion explosive rounds per min. to satelite guided small missles that could blow the left nut off an iraqy soldier standing in amongst a crowd and no one else gets injured. what i don`t understand is-- why are they spending millions& millions on testing these in america ?? invent a weapon,if it works 2 out of 3 times, produce it a send it over to save our brave soldiers from harms way!! if one missess,,,so ??? your opinion please????

I was let go out of Marine bootcamp due to an error on their part, which was concerning my physical health, more specifically cracked cartilage in my chest. I received a neutral discharge and received my DD214. I once got a letter from the veterans affairs office that started off, "Dear Veteran," Am I really a veteran? I didn't fight in a war but am I still a veteran?

Did anyone during WW2 ever think about fitting a rear facing machine gun on Spitfires, etc. Enemy fighters sneaking up behind a unwary Spitfire or Hurricane pilot might have had a nasty shock to be unepectedly sprayed with a short burst of lead.Even if no hits were scored enemy pilots would have treated a rear end attack with extra caution.I appreciate that extra ammunition carried would mean extra weight so the idea might not have got off the ground(no pun intended).

I understand the threat of uranium enrichment and that we must be on gaurd to prevent its use in weapons. BUT! Say the Iranian's want it to generate power as the say. Who are we to micro manage the earth and say , "NO, we forbid you to do this"? Doesn't it seem to be the right thing to do to support the power generation attempts and monitor all uranium to insure it is used for power and not weapons? I am very strongly in support of keeping America safe, but it seems wrong that we try to control the whole world. We could just work with them and monitor the uranium for its intended purpose. Right?

Have there been documented instances of soldiers during wartime deliberately shooting their own comrades, not by accident but as an act of revenge, on the battlefield.I imagine the act would be extremely difficult to prove in court. It is not outside the bounds of possibility that a lesser ranked soldier has been so severely miffed by a superior officer that revenge was taken in the heat of a battle.Modern forensic science would make detection more likely now, but during WW2 such an act would be less easily detected. Is there a site where such deeds and the miscreants would be listed.

One possible answer is that it must be pointed out as often as it takes the Olmert government to realize that the Kassam rockets falling on Sderot have nothing whatever to do with Israeli “resistance,” everything to do with Israeli “existence,” whether in the western Negev or on any other dunam of land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River over which Israel exercises sovereignty.

Why are people attacking Robert E. Lee?

I understand that the topic of slavery is a hot button one. But I want to understand beyond that. What makes people dislike the man.

Does any one think he is getting a raw deal out of history? He joined the confederacy because his home and heart were with Virginia, isn't that a noble gesture?

Are people just throwing him in with the "villains" just because of the slavery issue?

I would like some honest and thoughful answers not just "Your a racist" non-sense.
