Daughter thinking about NROTC at U of M to enable her to go into Marines upon graduation as a 2nd Lt. 4 years active duty after graduation and 4 reserve status, correct? Does anyone have any info or experiences to share to help her make the best decision for herself. She is very intelligent, physically fit, always been interested in the military - Dad was a career Navy man. I just don't want her to get the shaft with promises made that aren't true. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

What is an MOS in any of the branches including the Coast Guard that is a trainer or operates mainly guns. I was thinking Gunners Mate; but is their anything else? Also; when enlisting as Gunners Mate or w/e other, do you need alot of knowledge on fire arms or do they teach it in AIT or A School?

My a$$ they didnt. They took out the super power of the world w/ a bunch of farmers. Im sick of you damn Brits still being sore and trying to start sh*t (Not all of you obviusly but the few that are). Yeah we had the French help a little but the British were having the Indians trying to raid the whole west side of America throughout the war. Someone also said recently said America had 2 regiments from Canada come down and help but I thought that was kind of interestig seeing that they were officially under control of the Ruler of England into the 1800s.
That one guy had no idea what he was talking about. Hes PO'd that abunch of farmers kicked his great great grandpas @ss, and im sick of it. You think that they might be grateful after WWII. Sure they had a fairly big part in it; but they cant honestly say w/o the US they wouldnt be speaking Deutshe. We slaughtered them then, again in the 1800s, and saved them in the 1900s. Why are they trying to talk shi*t now?

First of all, I apologize if this is vague or incoherent.

I know it's pretty idealistic, but I want a career that allows me to protect those who can't always do it themselves. I've thought about joining the army, being a police officer, and the FBI, but in the end none of those seem to fit exactly what I want.

Ideally I could be a UN peacekeeper, but unfortunately the UN army only lives off of what member countries donate, and I'm not sure individual soldiers have any say in whether or not they work for the UN or the U.S. Government.

I would really like to have a clearer idea of my final destination though, so that I can began attaining the skills and training I'll need to succeed in such a career. I don't want to spend four years in college, and come out realizing I've studied something that has no relevance to what I want.

Last night, one of your compratiots stated that the American farmers, herdsmen etc whooped the **** off the British in the So called War of Independance!
I say that you have never won a war on your own!

Declaration of independance: 1776.

1777 War becomes global.
French, Spanish, Netherlands, Canada enter war on your side.

French navy defeat British at Chesapeake Bay.
British Army trapped at Yorktown 1781

1783 Paris peace treaty signed.

As for "Farmers" etc.
Continental Army 17 regiments.
Militia, 14 Regiments.
French Division. French Dragoon Regiment
2 Canadian regiments!

Taking a guess, you guys are just born lucky!

I have kinda asked this question before, But i just really dont know anything about the inner workings of our military. and i want to know what he's talking about when we have to come to an understanding and decide what to do.

My soon-to-be fiance is thinking about joining the Army national guard. He wants to be an eye doctor so he is looking at being a medic. he said his recruiter told him that medics are in hospital type of places on bases (he explained it so it seemed like m*a*s*h) he told me that he wouldn't be a feild medic..... like on the battlefeild. what is the difference, if there is one?
