Should it be legal for gays and lesbians to be openly gay in the United States Armed Forces? [after all, we are at war, and the country needs every solder it can get, no matter who they love]

Yes. If it really caused so many problems all of Europe and Israel would have no militaries at all as they have no laws against it.

And it's a moot point - there are and always will be gays and lesbians in the service. It's just a matter of whether or not you're allowing people to be truthful.

If someone wants to serve their country they should be commended - not told that who they sleep with makes them a second class citizen.

I like this question for a few reasons. First, yes they should be able to serve and openly, they do serve they just don't advertise it, anyone who has ever been in the military has served with gays, they just didn't know it. People make it seem as if gays join the military for the guys and are running around the squad bay flashing their cranks and grabbing peoples asses, it doesn't happen and when it does it's usually the straight guys who are the ones doing it. Second, if you were pinned down somewhere what are you going to do get on the horn and say "Fire mission at coordinates XYZ, immediate suppression, oh and don't let the fags fire the mission."? No you aren't going to care who it is as long as they get the job done. Anyone who is threatened by gay people in the military is most likely hiding something themselves.

Absolutely. YES. They have the right to fight and I support them. Anyone volunteering to join the Armed Services of my country I believe has the right.

Your first question was a bit of a cover up for your second question. Openly gay by gay people is usually not flaunted by those with good taste anymore than open sexual preference of anyone should be flaunted. Don't you get kinda disgusted when you see a man and woman kissing and hugging in a restaurant? Look at Ellen. She is super but doesn't flaunt the fact that she is Lesbian. I don't think anyone in the Armed Forced would either.

No, but then again no one should be talking about thier sex lives at work. I don't care how tolerate you are, most people don't want to be in an open shower with a flamboyant gay person. Especially men. Why do you seems to think that we need every soldier we can get. It's not a ******* free for all. The military is quality not quanitity.

being gay and in the protection rigidity isn't criminal. Obama keeps promising to get rid of do no longer ask do no longer tell and make it criminal yet he hasn't introduced yet. And no movie or e book approximately racist or sexist etc matters would desire to be banned because of the fact they're nevertheless a factor of our historic past and its no longer suitable to in effortless terms ban each and every thing. Thats like asserting that it never got here approximately. Thats rather fairly disrespectful imo, rather, because of the fact doing so affordable rates the reality that gay human beings have suffered in the previous. We nevertheless communicate approximately slavery and nicely known the reality that black human beings have been as quickly as subjected to terrible acts of inhumanity in united statesa. and to no longer communicate approximately it or have video clips or historic past books depicting those cases is like pretending it never got here approximately.

Why not? Their sexual preference doesn't impede their ability to serve their country. Don't ask, don't tell doesn't really address the question, but some people still have the notion that gays or lesbians are raving, sexual maniacs, who will attempt to ravish any same-sex person they meet. That's not true, any more than it's true that any straight person is prepared to ravish anyone of the opposite sex that they meet. For gays and lesbians, as for straights, there is a time and place for sex and it isn't on the battlefield.

I think they should. It's really no one business what someone's sexual orientation, and last time I checked America is suppose to be the land of the free. Besides what does their sexual orientation have to do with whether or not they are a good soldier. It's not like they're going to press their lifestyle off on everyone in the military.

i don't think a person's sexual preferencehas any bearing on their job performance. i had a few gay male friends and they did an excellent job. it's not like they're going to hit on all the guys in the army. they have standards too.

Homosexuals CAN join the military -- they just can't talk about their sex lives at work, and to be honest, no one needs to be talking about their sex lives at work.

I think it is naive, though, of homosexuals to think they can join the military and be totally accepted. A lot of guys who join the military are the macho type who would freak out if the gay guy was checking them out. Not to mention, there are a LOT of narrow minded fundie people in the military -- they shove their religion down your throat every chance they get, so they aren't going to accept the homosexuals, either.

So I just don't know why a homosexual would want to join that kind of atmosphere. *shrug*

Aren't they in Europe???

I think the US attitudes towards homosexuality will have to change first or you'll see a lot of "friendly fire".
