First of all, I apologize if this is vague or incoherent.
I know it's pretty idealistic, but I want a career that allows me to protect those who can't always do it themselves. I've thought about joining the army, being a police officer, and the FBI, but in the end none of those seem to fit exactly what I want.
Ideally I could be a UN peacekeeper, but unfortunately the UN army only lives off of what member countries donate, and I'm not sure individual soldiers have any say in whether or not they work for the UN or the U.S. Government.
I would really like to have a clearer idea of my final destination though, so that I can began attaining the skills and training I'll need to succeed in such a career. I don't want to spend four years in college, and come out realizing I've studied something that has no relevance to what I want.

I'm currently studying International Relations and Arabic, but I'm thinking about leaving school for a while and joining the army. It's something I've always wanted to do, and it will give me plenty of time to truly decide exactly where I want my life to go, while earning money for school and certainly gaining some life experience along the way.
My first question is does anyone know of a career where you're job is to protect the innocent who can't protect themselves. Preferably in an international context. I know many will say the government, but I don't always agree with the U.S. government's policies, especially foreign policies, and that could become a problem in where I'm sent and more importantly what I'm sent to do. The FBI is appealing because it is protecting America, not projecting it, but I'd really like to go out into the world and protect people against human rights abuses and things like that.
Also, and wisdom you could offer would be much appreciated.
