Think of the coldest, wettest and most miserable you have ever been. Multiply by a hundred. You should get a rough idea.
Napoleon took his army into Russia too close to winter and in the end, they were faced by a worse enemy than the Russian forces: Russian weather.
The troops were alway hungry, facing a tough, determined enemy and a climate that French soldiers were not even close to being ready to face.
It was so bad that a large portion of the surviving Frenchmen went home without even boots on their feet and only socks and strips of old blankets to prevent them from losing their feet as they marched on.

Used to speedy victories, Napoleon's military pushed too some distance into Russia without taking the winter into attention. They began to expire of nutrition, could no longer acquire sufficient around them because of the fact Russians are services to burning their vegetation as they withdraw, and have been only battered down by utilising the numerically stable Russian forces. no one would have had lots of a decision.

The French troops were in severe conditions they normally do not experiance. The winters were horrible and many died from that.As well as food supplis rotting or never making it as Russian soldiers would attack it.These new conditions were that which
the men had never trained in and clothing was also a problem. The winters were unexpected as well as the fact that they had to suffer Russian ambushes.
