I've heard a lot of hype lately about the government bringing back the military draft (sp?). Could they really do something like that? I mean, I'm almost positive that from a legal standpoint they could, but do you think Americans would tolerate it this time around? I know in previous years men ran to Canada and that sort of thing, so it was never fully tolerated, but what would it be like today, in modern times? Would you go? Would you allow your 18 year old daughters and sons to go? What would you do to avoid it, or would you be in favor of it?

When they invaded they moved such a large army, so quickly through iraq.-(If there had been a large organised iraqi defence)- strategically did they leave there supply lines open to attack, risking leaving there attacking force without fuel and ammo in the middle of the desert?

I've heard of putting an apple or a slice of bread in with them to keep them fresh, but I'm afraid they will get moldy. Has anyone ever tried this, or found another way to get soft cookies to Iraq???

Currently dating a Recon Marine deployed w/ Operation Enduring Freedom. It has been 2 months since I have heard anything from him. Is this normal? I'm getting kind of worried. Do some missions usually last for long periods of time w/ no communication?

This is the end of a beautiful poem of a soldier and a man talking on Christmas Eve.

"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,

"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?

It seems all too little for all that you've done,

For being away from your wife and your son."

Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,

"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.

To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,

To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,

To know you remember we fought and we bled.

Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,

That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

God Bless out troops who are away from their loved ones this holiday season.

Here's the related news story I found on Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061120/ap_on_go_co/military_draft

I just got an email from an underground source claiming the following:

"Tell Bush and Congress
No Draft No Way!

We must take action now to stop the draft before it starts.

A new bill to be introduced in Congress in January will mandate military service for men and women between the ages of 18 and 42. The failure of the U.S. effort to occupy Iraq, as well as plans to take military action against Iran and possibly North Korea, has stretched the military to the breaking point and the Pentagon needs thousands of more troops to carry out the agenda of global dominance."

Okay, both men AND women? In fact, I don't even think women currently have to fill out a selective service card, do they?--and to the age of 42? The original conscript age was between 18 and 26. That seems like the most drastic draft measure that would ever have been taken in the U.S. Is this a hoax?

I've been wondering about joining the army and I want to serve my country, but yet I have no idea what I'm doing. Some people tell me it'll be huge mistake and others tell me its the most honorable thing i could ever do. Im just really confused and need a little insight into the life of a soldier.

It has been acknowledged by active Generals that our troops are stretched thin-it is hurting our ability to effectively fight in Iraq and Afghanistan-and also limits our options if another major conflict arises. Recruiting is down. This War on terror mirrors our stuggle against Nazi Germany according to Bush.

I had to sit down recently and think about the new slogan for today's Army. Not counting the war we are currently fighting, I don't think that the change in the slogan makes the US Army seem any better. Let alone, with the way soldiers are entering nowadays. Basic Training and AIT soldiers are taking over DS' (which I think is total BS). Being more lenient on a soldier and pushing them through without passing the Army's PT standards. I'd have to say that the new slogan is just mocking what today's modern Army is becoming. I don't mean to offend anybody who currently is still serving because I myself am still serving. I would like to know what is on other peoples minds pertaining to the new slogan and their opinions on IET soldiers going through training.
