According to 60 Minutes it is a racket they manufacture them selling them over and over. Nice thought though! God Bless You and The Southern People.

I think it's cool you would like to return the dog tag to the owner. I would contact your local recruiter's office, either the Marines, Navy, Airforce, or Army. Let them know you found the dog tag and they should be able to track it back to the owner based on the info on the tag. Some tags have social security #s on them, some don't and it depends on which tag you got a hold of too. Good luck.

Oh you damaging puzzled toddler. How naive you're to think of that your little emo vogue (that has a lifespan of approximately 4 or 5 years) is going to a minimum of sooner or later be extra advantageous to metallic, a great type with over 30 years of huge success. metallic followers are the main committed and unswerving followers you will ever meet. Emo followers are only a team of 12 to fourteen twelve months old kiddies from center-class suberbia whining approximately how damaging their existence is while they probable have it surprisingly rattling stable. back interior the mid-eighty's, there substitute right into a clean type that consisted of bands like Flock Of Seagulls, A-Ha, and Devo. followers of that music thought it may take over, yet after some years it died out. i assume that fluctuate into in the past some time, yet that's what emo music is on the instant. 10 years from now human beings would be guffawing at those songs and staring at pictures of the ridiculous haircuts and garments and say, "What have been we questioning?" Emo music is a vogue! A fad! no longer something extra suitable than a t-shirt!

I assume that US Marines dogtags are similar to those issued to the British Army and would show a military number. The number is the vital way of finding the person to whom the dog tags were issued. The US Marines will probably have endless lists of those who joined the Marines going right back to beyond whenever.
I suggest you contact US Marines direct. You might try their website first then a phone call.

That is such a wonderful thing to do! If only there were more people in the world who would be so generous.
I would start by contacting the nearest US embassy. You can also go to the US Marines webpage and see if there is a 'contact us' section.
I also have a couple of friends who are/were in the Marines - let me know if you need anymore help.

I should imagine the only people who would be able to find and trace this guy (assuming he is still alive and drawing a pension) is by going through official channels at the Pentagon and/or Dept. of Defense. Other than that, it's probably private investigator time, and that would probably cost a fortune!
I fear it is not a project for the average layman. You'd probably be wasting your time and money trying to locate the original owner.

Go to your local Veteran's affairs office or Veteran's administration office. They will help you post a letter. I can't remember the name of the department but there is a department which in Washington which will look up the veteran. They use social security records addresses etc. Your local veteran's affairs office will forward the letter to them. When they get in touch with the individual if he desires he will contact you.
