This time 2 years ago I was heading off to Iraq and as a Serviceman I thought little of it. It was hard beign away from family on Christmas but we are paid to get on with these things. We have gone a long way since WWI when Germans and British played football at Christmas before resuming fighting the next day.

Although it would be nice to have our boys back home for Xmas it really wont happen.

I feel sorry for the guys that are married and/or have kids but they knew what would happen when they signed up and are now serving their Country .

What we can do is as we are sitting there eating our Xmas lunches we can spare a thought and a prayer for all our boys and girls out there doing a wonderful job.

God Bless The British Troops.

I am sorry, but obviously the person asking this question will not understand. There is a mission to complete. We can't just pack up and go home because of a holiday, it just doesn't work like that. I'll say it again, there's a mission to complete, and the question being asked here is a bit absurd to me.

I only wish they could be but they have to stay to finish the job that we started I say we because I'm British and I believe we did the right thing in getting rid of Saddam and the Taliban and we are doing the right thing in trying to establish strong governments in these country's to help their people through this difficult time and in the future, hopefully sooner rather than later but how ever long it takes. my best wishes go to our fighting forces out there and to their families having to wait anxiously waiting at home

no remember how each person feels about the conflict, our troops deserve our help. Freedom isn't "free", each and every from time to time it really is paid with the stunning sacrifice. the position do you get your information? even as became the stunning time you surely "spoke" with any of our squaddies? Ask them in the adventure that they imagine that's "properly worth it", i think of their answer would wonder you. we've family contributors and acquaintances who're there, or were there. they do no longer share your attitude. all of them would truly strive against the conflict "over there", than right here. all of them would bypass decrease back if needed, some have already got. You, and everyone such as your attitude, are purely "free" via sacrifices made by our squaddies. that's really basic to sit down decrease back once you're "secure at your residence", and settle on the human beings who make the cruel judgements, judgements you would possibly want to no longer make. in my opinion i could not care a lot less if our squaddies might want to "shoot their way out of a site visitors congestion". i'm no longer there, that's no longer my call to make - that's no longer yours both. how can you communicate for the Afghanistan human beings? Are you surely one of them? have you ever been there? the way you would possibly want to you or each person else who hasn't been there probable comprehend what there "needs" are? How did you comprehend that "no one feels secure anymore even as American troops are round"? provide up speaking for each human being else, you do not comprehend what you're speaking about.

NO. British troops should NOT be sent home for Christmas. Some will be relived by other troops and get home that way. The British Army as with the US Army, have been sent to do a job. They will do that job and then come home.

In a perfect world soldiers would get home for good and never have to go do difficult jobs in difficult places..

The world is far from perfect and so they will have to stay in arms way doing the jobs they are paid for.. sorry but that's life!!

What's so special about being home for Xmas?

They need to stay until the job is done, and most of them would agree with that. They don't need to be 'protected' by a bunch of anti-war wankers.

They should be, but they won't be.

They should not be there now. The war in Iraq was supposed to be over 2 years ago, coming up for 3 and still service men and women are dying in the name of "FREEDOM". Freedom for who?
