After all, Canada is surely just as large a hotbed for terrorist activity as Iraq is/was. Myabe we should have invaded Canada instead of Iraq.

I am 25 years old and as of yet have no military experience. Being an officer in the military is something I've always wanted to do but just kind of never did. However I am now considering going into the reserves while I finish my degree and upon graduation becoming an officer. This would make me either 27 or 28. Many people are telling me I'm too old to be considering this. However these people have no military experience thus I find myself not completely respecting their opinions. If you have experience in the military, what are your thoughts on this? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin both did the duty and experienced the sacrifice, and then used his experience to assess the program to the American public. He is an American hero. You won't disagree.

How do you turn on/off the safety on a M1 Garand?

2006-11-02 12:05:26 · 4 answers · asked by Anonymous

in afghanistan, the WHOLE coalition {US, Britain, Nato, Etc.} has around 50,000 combined. there is violence, but nothing like Iraq.

Iraq: around between 140,000-200,000 troops, iraq looks smaller then afganistan, out of control violence

if we reduced our troop level by 100,000 then there would be less americans on muslim soil {that is a very serious problem, too many americans on muslim soil}. and, if we had FULL peace talks with al-sadr, and the insurgents, we could solve a lot of those problems {many groups have offered to halt attacks if withdrawl plans are made} and we should devote more resources to the Iraqi security forces, instead of more things for our forces, because iraq will defend it's own land someday and they need gear.

what do you think. agree or disagree, let me know if there are certain parts you have opinions about. PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME, this is what i think would help iraq

Marine sacrifices his life for others in grenade blast

By Gordon Trowbridge
The Army Times

FALLUJAH, Iraq — Sgt. Rafael Peralta built a reputation as a man who always put his Marines' interests ahead of his own.

He showed that again, when he made the ultimate sacrifice of his life Tuesday, by shielding his fellow Marines from a grenade blast. "It's stuff you hear about in boot camp, about World War II and Tarawa Marines who won the Medal of Honor," said Lance Cpl. Rob Rogers, 22, of Tallahassee, Fla., one of Peralta's platoon mates in 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.

Peralta, 25, as platoon scout, wasn't even assigned to the assault team that entered the insurgent safe house in northern Fallujah, Marines said. Despite an assignment that would have allowed him to avoid such dangerous duty, he regularly asked squad leaders if he could join their assault teams, they said.

One of the first Marines to enter the house, Peralta was wounded in the face by rifle fire from a room near the entry door, said Lance Cpl. Adam Morrison, 20, of Tacoma, who was in the house when Peralta was first wounded.

Moments later, an insurgent rolled a fragmentation grenade into the area where a wounded Peralta and the other Marines were seeking cover.

As Morrison and another Marine scrambled to escape the blast, pounding against a locked door, Peralta grabbed the grenade and cradled it into his body, Morrison said. While one Marine was badly wounded by shrapnel from the blast, the Marines said they believe more lives would have been lost if not for Peralta's selfless act.

"He saved half my fire team," said Cpl. Brannon Dyer, 27, of Blairsville, Ga. The Marines said such a sacrifice would be perfectly in character for Peralta, a Mexico native who lived in San Diego and gained U.S. citizenship after joining the Marines.

"He'd stand up for his Marines to an insane point," Rogers said.

Rogers and others remembered Peralta as a squared-away Marine, so meticulous about uniform standards that he sent his camouflage uniform to be pressed while training in Kuwait before entering Iraq.

But mostly they remembered acts of selflessness: offering career advice, giving a buddy a ride home from the bar, teaching salsa dance steps in the barracks.

While Alpha Company was still gathering information, and a formal finding on Peralta's death is likely months away, not a single Marine in Alpha Company doubted the account of Peralta's act of sacrifice.

"I believe it," said Alpha's commander, Capt. Lee Johnson. "He was that kind of Marine."

"I know someone..." who's been in the US Army for just over a year. They've already lost their rank once and received numberous bad counseling statements. Is it too late to get a discharge based on failure to adapt? How could they get one? How bad would it look when they try to get a civilian job? What about a government job?

Why do some people in the U.S think that just because an Atomic bomb worked on Japan it will work on everyone?Japan only
gave up because they could not watch their people suffer like that.Their military was still a little capable enough to pull the war
to another 2 years or so.Then once their military is defeated they would use rebels like in Iraq currently. But is it not stuiped when some patriots think that they can end a war like in Japan by simply nuking nuking a country. They have become arrogant with their victory over Japan.Jut think a nuclear bomb dropped on Tehran
or Pyongyang and a few hundred thousands die.Do you really think those countries will sign a peace treaty and give up?
Nope.Their soldeirs will spread out and attack U.S allies and
become gurrilla's in a war torn radio active nation which was once their home. They won't give up.Kim Jong Il already said that he would take the world with him or in other words cause as much damage as possible to the U.S before losing.

The Whole Persian Gulf War only cost us $8 Billion Dollars. Primarily because other countries that were part of the coalition footed over 80% of the cost. By going it alone in Iraq, we are paying this hefty price by ourselves.....

Isn't that lack of comprehension greatly from a lack of education; in which those people should be serving in our military to get the education that they need.

Then some of the soldiers proved their stupidity with their comment; while there are many soldiers saying, "If it weren't for the education that I need which the military offers, I wouldn't be in this war zone." That is the #1 recruitment incentive.

It's important that Americans stop going along with the republicans' lies; it is your children, your husbands, wives, family members, and you that will suffer the consequences of not excercising good judgement and influence.

Smarten up, we shouldn't need so many soldier, and the democrates are trying to fix this atrocious situaltion. Both, in education and getting our soldiers out of harms way!

Three cheers for our soldiers; as dumb as you may be we want you safe.
