Because this is what they have done so far and everyone backed them...No one has ever dare to criticize Israel for its actions against its neighbors and against the Palestinians...
So why would Israel believe that it can survive otherwise?

Israel has to fight for its survival. In order for you to understand why its government responds to security within its borders you would have to put yourself in a space that you do not judge it by western standards. Every nation has the right to do what it has to to provide a secure environment within it's borders. I am not justifying its actions. Most of its decisions regarding "acts of war" and internal security are to say the least difficult. Many european nations and america do not have a "spotless" record either. Most of humanity prefer peace. Unfortunately many situations call for warfare.
The crisis between Jews and Moslems has existed since the early days of Islam. It will not go away any time soon. Pray for peace.

Because bitter experience has shown that turning the other cheek just gets them shot in the other side of the head. They tried land for peace and that did not work, they wound up with less land and less peace.
If someone vows your utter destruction and elimination from the face of the earth, wouldn't you fight for survival? There are plenty of wrongs on both sides. Is a desire for survival one of them?

because they can, and they are correct in doing so against a throatcutting, school bus bombing satanic enemy
disarm the arabs, and there will be peace in the middle east
disarm the jews and there will be a second holocaust

Because the Nazis came very close to wiping them off the face of the earth. That generally gives them some leeway on protecting themselves in any manner they like. I don't agree with many of their methods but when you've got the US backing you up you can get away with almost anything. Like getting the US to invade any Middle East country they don't like.
