In my opinion:

1. Parents and role models
2. Society
3. Religion and the Believe in God, Our Supreme Being or anything greater than ourselves.
4. Education
5. And of course, character, which is all of the above redefined within each and every person.....sometimes we forget that we are just human....and then we go back to #3.
6. Sometimes we forget our family...and we go back and touch base with #1.

It's a combination of all of the above and that's called culture...sometimes it lasts a lifetime, sometimes we change...when we move, or are moved by society...again it depends on what we are first, and then how we react to what happens to us in life.

We are only human and GOD says...come just as you are!...by the way, GOD's the only One that accepts me that way.

There is only one true source for living the moral life.

Look in the mirror. That person looking back at you knows what's right and what's not. If he/she is true to the self, then, by telling the truth, doing good work and supporting right action, a personal morality is attained.

We judge amoral or immoral others by deciding if they are doing the right thing. The fly in this ointment is that those others may have looked into their personal mirrors and gotten answers that are contrary to what we personally believe.

The question, then, is who determines right action and the Truth?

We then go back to the source. Parents and society influence us. If you are a woman and leave your home without a man escorting you under the rule of the Taliban, you are guilty of breaking a moral law.

If you live in a society where the age of consent is ten years old, that morality is dictated by the society. Some Mormons may have more than one wife.

Bottom line is that if you are true to yourself, then your personal morality is what it is. Alistair Crowley said, "Do what thou wilt!"

I would say morality derived from the fact that people (going back to pre-history) had to have certain rules to live together and for their societies to function and survive.
